This is to revise and replace Campaign 1744-C, dated 15-Apr-2016. This revision is to:
1. Add clarifying narrative, and
2. Add an Attachment B.
If additional information is required, contact your Cummins Warranty Operations Group

Description
This In-Shop Campaign provides authorization for certified repair locations to remove and
replace the coolant level sensors on certain ISL9 CM2350 engines in transit bus applications
while the unit is in for any maintenance or repair. Certain restrictions on reimbursement apply.
Please refer to the Reimbursement section below.
Sensor Part Number 2872933 may experience pin corrosion as the result of inadequate
sealing performance of the electrical connector. This action replaces the sensor and electrical
connector, providing improved protection against moisture intrusion.

Action
In order to qualify for repair under this field action, an engine:
1.

will be covered Regardless of coverage status, and
must be on the attached ESN list, and
must be in a transit bus application, and
Owner must be agree to replace the sensors mating connector with a solder splice, if
required.
NOTE: Nova Bus applications MUST use a new OEM supplied wire harness, the
solder splice kit is not applicable for this repair. The cost of the OEM supplied wire
harness is not covered by this field action.

After verifying that the engine meets the above requirements, perform the following actions:
1. There are two repair scenarios for this repair. Nova Bus applications are to use sensor
Part Number 4384457 and a new OEM supplied wire harness. All other Transit Bus
applications are to use sensor Part Number 4359193 and the splice kit Part Number
5299971.
2. For Nova Bus applications, please refer to Attachment B, Repair Scenario 2.
3. For all other Transit Bus applications, please refer to Attachment B, Repair Scenario 1.

Material Disposition
Materials removed as a result of this field action must be scrapped.

Attachment B - C1744, New Coolant Level Sensor Repair Instructions
ISL9 CM2350 L101 and ISB6.7 CM2350 B101 Transit Bus - All Other Transit Bus OEMs
Scenario 1 Resolution:
1. Disconnect coolant level sensor, Part Number 2872933, from the OEM harness and remove sensor from the
coolant surge tank.
a. Note that Part Number 2872933 is now obsolete. Refer to Step 4 for correct part number.
b. See the ISL9 CM2350 L101 Service Manual, Bulletin 4310787. Refer to Procedure 019- 017 in Section 19.
2. Cut the OEM harness 25.4 mm [ 1 in ] behind the OEM Engineered Plastic Components (EPC) connector. See
Figure 1 below.
3. Install electrical connector, Part Number 5299971. See Figure 2 below.
a. See the ISL9 CM2350 L101 Service Manual, Bulletin 4310787. Refer to Procedure 019- 199 in Section 19.
Reference Solder Splice section.
4. Install new coolant level sensor, Part Number 4359193, into the surge tank and connect to electrical connector,
Part Number 5299971. See Figure 3 below.

ISL9 CM2350 L101 and ISB6.7 CM2350 B101 Transit Bus - Nova Bus Applications ONLY
Scenario 2 Resolution (FOR NOVA BUS ONLY):
1. Disconnect coolant level sensor, Part Number 2872933, from the OEM harness and remove sensor from the
coolant surge tank.
a. Note that Part Number 2872933 is now obsolete. Refer to Step 2 for correct part number.
b. See the ISL9 CM2350 L101 Service Manual, Bulletin 4310787. Refer to Procedure 019- 017 in Section 19.
2. Install new coolant level sensor, Part Number 4384457, into the surge tank and connect to electrical connector.
Replace the wire harness with the new OEM Supplied wire harness. See Figure 4 below.

General Part Compatibility Notation - For ISL9 CM2350 L101 equipped transit applications only:
FOR TRANSIT APPLICATIONS: New coolant level sensor, Part Number 4359193 is NOT compatible with the OEM
Engineered Plastic Components connector. The OEM Engineered Plastic Components connector will need to be cut off
and replaced with electrical connector, Part Number 5299971, for the first time repair.
FOR NOVA BUS APPLICATIONS: New coolant level sensor, Part Number 4384457 is NOT compatible with the OEM
Engineered Plastic Components connector. The OEM Engineered Plastic Components connector will need to be
replaced with a new OEM supplied wire harness.
