Gas Engines:
See the table below for details. The present EGR cooler is being superseded. When
replacing EGR cooler, Part Number 4990739, the customer must order one of the installation
kits listed below. The kit contains the coolant vent line for installation. Reference Procedure
008-017 in Section 8 in the appropriate service manual.
NOTE: Peterbilt™ 320 Chassis installations may need to order a new original equipment
manufacturer (OEM) air intake pipe, D66-6894 PIPE-AIR INTAKE, in addition to the kit
below.

The new vertical plate EGR cooler is a robust design and is a required upfit to the present
horizontal plate EGR cooler design.
This document consists of the instructions to order parts/kit and upfit an engine equipped with
a horizontal plate EGR cooler to a vertical plate EGR cooler.
Determine the type of EGR cooler (horizontal plate or vertical plate) presently on the engine,
using the illustrations and description below:

1. The horizontal plate EGR cooler (Figure 1) is equipped with a slip fit connection (without a
flange) for the coolant lines.
If the existing cooler is horizontal plate, choose one of the following:





OEM is New Flyer, follow Case A below
OEM is Gillig ISL CM2150 or Nova ISL CM2150 left side installation only, follow Case B
below
All other configurations, follow Case C below

2. The vertical plate EGR cooler (Figure 2) is equipped with a flange connection for the coolant
lines.
If the existing cooler is vertical plate, choose one of the following:



OEM is New Flyer, follow case D below
All other OEM’s, follow case E below

Order upfit parts based on conditions that satisfy the repair/case.

NOTE: There is no vent tube between the front of the EGR cooler vent and the rear EGR
cooler vent. See Installation Instructions, Bulletin 4908175, for installing a vent tube
from the rear EGR cooler vent to the OEM coolant top tank.
NOTE: For 2007 – 2009 New Flyer™ Diesel Low Floor Buses equipped with the ISL
CM2150 and 2010 New Flyer™ Diesel Low Floor Buses built before September 2010,
equipped with the ISL9 CM2250, an OEM exhaust bracket may need to be modified to
allow for clearance of the new EGR cooler. Please reference New Flyer™ TSIB 16-01.
