HEATER BLOWER MOTOR RELAY, REPLACEMENT. ON SOME MACK
LEU TRUCKS BUILT BETWEEN 10/16/2008 AND 9/29/2014, CONTINUOUS USE OF THE HEATER BLOWER MOTOR CAN CAUSE FAILURE OF THE HEATER BLOWER MOTOR RELAY AND WIRE TERMINALS. IF THE BLOWER MOTOR IS INOPERABLE, INSPECT THE FUSE BLOCK, RELAY, TERMINALS, AND WIRES. IF ANY COMPONENT SHOW SIGNS OF EXCESSIVE HEAT (DISCOLORED AND MELTED PLASTIC), THE RELAY BLOCK ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED WITH PART NUMBER 22572078.

On some MACK LEU trucks built between 10/16/2008 and 9/29/2014, continuous use of the
heater blower motor can cause failure of the heater blower motor relay and wire terminals. If
the blower motor is inoperable, inspect the fuse block, relay, terminals, and wires. If any
component show signs of excessive heat (discolored and melted plastic), the relay block
assembly must be replaced with part number 22572078. Additionally, the jumper harness
included in kit part number 22572078 will be spliced to the main cab harness.
Note: This bulletin does not apply to MACK Trucks Australia.

Decommissioning the Truck for Repair
You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information,
group 80, "General Safety Practices, Body, Cab, and HVAC" before performing this
procedure. If you are not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your
supervisor for training before you perform it.
NOTE: Information is subject to change without notice. Illustrations are used for reference
only and can differ slightly from the actual vehicle being serviced. However, key
components addressed in this information are represented as accurately as possible.
1 Park the vehicle on a flat and level surface.
2 Apply the parking brake.
3 Place the transmission in neutral or park.
4 Install the wheel chocks.

7 Inspect the relay for thermal damage.
8 Inspect the relay wiring for thermal damage.
9 Inspect the front side, and the back side of the relay block for thermal damage.
Note: If the relay, relay wiring and or block show signs of thermal damage, proceed to step
(10), replace the relay block, relay, and jumper wiring with (part number 22572078).
Note: If the relay, relay block and wiring show no signs of damage, no further action is
required. Skip to step 20.

10 Note and mark the orientation of the (4) wires going to the existing relay block as it
corresponds to the terminals of the relay.
11 Remove tape from the cab harness as needed.

12 Cut the relay block wiring 50.8 - 76.2 mm (2.0 – 3.0 in) away from the relay block.
Note: If there is thermal damage to the cab harness wiring, cut and remove any damage
wiring from the cab harness.
Note: Discard the damaged relay block and harness wiring.

13 Strip each of the cab harness wires approximately 8.0 mm (0.314 in).

14 Remove the cover from the replacement relay jumper assembly (part number 22572078).

15 Using the wiring diagrams below, identify the proper wiring sequence for the jumper
harness and cab harness.
Note: Ensure both ends of the butt splice are heated after the jumper is spliced to the main
cab harness.

16 Using a proper crimping tool, crimp the relay block (1) jumper to the cab harness (2).

17 Using a heat gun, heat shrink the wire splices.
Note: To ensure the splices are heat shrunk properly, heat the splices until glue or resin
appears at the end of the splices.

18 Tape the jumper and cab harness as needed.
