(July 2013)
Certain CHU, CXU, GU, and TD vehicles may experience issues with premature blower
motor failure due to excessive moisture in the climate unit. Mack Trucks Inc. has developed
improvements to the system to reduce the amount of moisture pulled into the climate unit.
Follow the procedure outlined in this document to address trucks with concerns of blower
motor failures due to moisture.

Procedure
You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information,
Function Group 8, “General Safety Practices, Cab” before performing this procedure. If you
are not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training
before you perform it.
1 Secure the vehicle for service by parking it on a flat level surface, applying the parking
brake, chocking the rear wheel, and placing the transmission in neutral.
2 Disconnect the negative battery cable first then disconnect the positive battery cable or
turn the battery disconnect switch to the “OFF” position (if equipped).
3 Remove the passenger side lower kick panel to gain access to the climate unit..

From the left edge of the filter cover, measure and mark hole 1 at 51 mm (2 in.). Starting
from the center-point of hole 1, mark the remaining holes (2) at 32 mm (1.25 in) intervals.

6 On the filter cover, drill holes at the marked locations.
Note: To locate the hole, start drilling from the front side of the cover. Complete the drilling
from the rear.
Note: The hole size should be 7/8 inch minimum and one (1) inch maximum.
Note: MACK recommends using a unibit step drill bit.

Note: On the inlet duct, be sure to apply RTV around the U-shaped cutouts for the wipers.
17 Install and route the windshield washer fluid supply hose to the inlet duct shelf.

Install and align the wiper arms on the splined studs of the wiper transmission.
Note: Ensure that the wiper motor is in the parked position before installing the wiper
arms.
Note: Ensure that the release tab engages before putting the wiper arms back at rest
against the windshield.

Connect the windshield washer fluid hose to the wiper arm sprayer nozzle.
20 Cut two sections of hose. Cut one hose to approximately 1.20 meter (4 ft). Cut the other
hose to approximately 1.82 meter (6 ft).

Route both the inlet duct drain hoses between the wiper motor and the horn. Then route
them following the A/C lines to the main airbundle. Final routing is downward towards to
the ground on the outside of the framerail. The tubes drain in front of the driver’s side
splash shield. The hose routing can be secured with zip ties.
Note: Due to varying vehicle configurations ensure that the hoses are not draining near or
on any electrical components.
23 Close the hood and latch.
24 Connect all previously removed cables to the negative (ground) battery terminals. Tighten
to 20 ± 2 Nm (15 ± 1.5 ft-lb). Install the battery box cover.
