Detroit Part Return Process
Though the Detroit parts return process remains the same, this letter supersedes Service
Operation letter 05SO-7 by providing updated shipping account and resource information.

 Part Return
Process

In general, all parts associated with claims submitted via the Detroit Warranty System may be
requested for return. If not requested within 60 days of the claim submittal date, parts can be
scrapped or returned for core credit. To ensure the service network’s parts management
processes are current and maximize efficiency, please review the following information about
returning Detroit parts; locations are urged to update on-site procedures, as necessary.
For any return, it is important that parts be tagged accurately with multiple packing slips. One (1)
of the required packing slips can be printed from the associated claim in the Detroit Warranty
System. The packing slip that is printed from a claim is scanned and tracks the part(s)
throughout the return process. To print a packing slip from the claim, go to: Claim screen >
Links > Print Packing Slip. Repair facilities are required to attach this bar coded packing slip to
the outside of each part box; please also affix the part with a bar coded tag.

Because DTNA uses Paragon to track returned parts, shipments must also contain a Paragon
packing slip. On the Paragon packing slip, verify that parts have been properly identified as
Warranty and include the associated claim number.

Instructions

There are two Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing Consolidation Centers that receive parts, DDR-East
and DDR-West; routing instructions are available on DDCSN and DTNAConnect (see page 2 for
links). Send requested parts to the appropriate DDR facility and write, “ATTN: WARRANTY” on the
address label. Upon receipt, core credit is issued, if applicable, and the failed parts are
forwarded, as necessary, to Detroit.

Shipments that have a gross weight of less than 150 lbs. should be sent by UPS Small Parcel; for
warranty shipments, use UPS account number E49591. All shipments leaving a service location
on the same day must be combined onto a single bill of lading. The bill of lading must state,
“Prepaid – third party bill – Detroit Diesel Warranty, 13400 West Outer Drive, Detroit, MI 48239.”
Please ensure that the destination location is the correct DDR facility for warranty return goods.
When returning Detroit parts, do not use any DTNA UPS account number associated with chassis
part returns.
For less than truck load (LTL) routing instructions on shipments from 150-19,999 lbs. and the
correct LTL carriers to utilize for shipping all U.S. and Canadian parts bound to DDR facilities,
please see the resources available via at DDCSN > Warranty > Reman Shipping Addresses.

To prevent chargebacks related to improper Detroit parts return, please review the above
procedures with all appropriate service location personnel.
