1. Introduction
The fuel level indicator system in Agility Fuel Systems for LNG consists of a capacitance sending
unit, located inside the LNG tank and an engine control unit (ECU) that translates the output from
the tank sending unit to a signal that is compatible with the OEM fuel gauge on the vehicle
instrument cluster. See Figure 1. A typical ECU is shown in Figure 2.

There are two fuel gauge symptoms:
(A) Agility ECU firmware 4.5 can cause the fuel level gauge on the dashboard to behave erratically
under certain circumstances. If the fuel in the tank ranges from approximately 3/4 to a full tank, the
gauge may indicate empty or fluctuate between the actual level and empty. This fluctuating or
inaccurate level indication will only occur when the tank is above approximately 3/4 of a tank. As
the fuel level goes below 3/4 of a tank, the fuel gauge will operate normally.
(B) If fuel in the tank exceeds a certain level or the vehicle is at an incline, fuel sloshes around
inside the tank, and the dashboard fuel gauge continuously sweeps from “E” to “F.”

There is no danger to the vehicle, the operator or the fuel system, but care should be taken to
ensure that vehicles are filled before operation, as the fuel level gauge may indicate an improper
level when the tank is low or not full.
A new LNG fuel level gauge sender regulator module corrects erratic fuel gauge operation on LNG
systems. The module plugs into the existing wiring harness between the LNG level sender inside
the tank and the ECU, see Figure 2.

This module is covered under warranty and should be installed at the next service interval. In
addition to installing the new module, the ECU should be revised to Firmware version 5 at the
same time, either replacing the ECU (exchange the old ECU for a new one) or updating the ECU
firmware.
2. Affected Units
This procedure applies to all LNG Agility Fuel Systems with an Agility ECU and put into service
before November 1, 2015. Old/legacy LNG systems without an ECU are not affected by this
bulletin.
3. Corrective Action
Vehicles that have units equipped with Agility ECU firmware version 4.3 should contact Agility Fuel
Systems Product Support Group to report this erratic behavior and reference this bulletin, ENP364, to receive a new ECU (firmware version 5.0) and the LNG Tank Level Sender Module Kit, part
number 10400309. The ECU may be re-programmed – the Product Support Group staff can advise
the best way to handle the ECU.
4. Parts Required

5. Procedure: Installing the Fuel Gauge Module
1. Remove shroud cover on the master tank using a 13 mm wrench or socket.

2. Un-plug the 3-pin connector from the tank level sender and push it through the shroud.
Removing the grommet may help – but be SURE to replace the grommet to protect the
wiring.

3. Plug the module in-between the 3-pin WeatherPak connectors, as shown below.

4. Mount the regulator module using an existing fastener and a P-clip, as shown below. The
location is at the approx. 2 o’clock position on the tank housing, next to the level sender
module.

5. Attach a P-clip around the regulator module, as shown.
6. Using a UV-protected cable tie, secure any wiring up and away from the bottom of the end
housing. When mounting the wiring, make sure any installed parts will not be affected by
normal frost and ice formation, see below.

7. When the installation is completed, replace the tank shroud cover.
6. Procedure: Remove and Replace the ECU
1. Locate the ECU on the heat exchanger assembly on the driver’s side frame rail.
2. Remove the four 10-32 S.S. pan head bolts holding the ECU to the shroud cover.

Remove old ECU by disconnecting 16 pin and 4 pin connectors.
Inspect the connector and wiring for corrosion.
Install new ECU using existing hardware.
Reconnect the connectors.
Cycle key to observe and verify proper gauge function.
7. Warranty Statement
This procedure is covered under warranty. Standard repair time (SRT) is 0.25 hours for installing
the module and 1.3 hours for removing and replacing the ECU. Refer to warranty reimbursement
procedures in the Warranty Manual, ENP-067.
