Emer Mark 147 Solenoid Valve
Coil Replacement

1. Introduction
Solenoid coils attached to the Emer Mark 147 valve body have been found to allow moisture
intrusion in some cases. A new design has been introduced to reduce moisture entry.

2. Affected Units
These coils are found on limited numbers of Gillig buses with the previous valve design. Gillig
vehicles with the Emer KR-100 manual valve are not affected.
Affected VINs 179852-179881, 180902-180934, 180934-180965, 180532-180537, 182346182355, 182901-182982, 182651-182665, 182885-182901, 92262, 176562, 92266, 180531 and
182345.

3. Corrective Action
Remove and replace the solenoid and replace it with a new one, Agility Fuel Systems part number
10400304. Connect a new jumper harness to power the solenoid.

4. Procedure
The replacement procedure involves multiple steps that must be done in order to insure proper
installation and function of the solenoid valve. See Figure 1 for correct sequence for assembly.

4.1 Required Parts
One of each item below (A and B) for each solenoid valve:
A. Coil with Super Seal connector, Agility Fuel Systems part number 10400304.
Includes:
• Solenoid cap with O-ring (EPDM)
• Solenoid locknut
• Spring washer SS
• O-ring 28.3x1.78 (EPDM)
B. Jumper harness JPT 2-Pin Male to Super Seal 2-Pin Male, 19.7-in. long, Agility Fuel
Systems part number 10402013.

Special Tools

17 mm super-thin shallow socket
22 mm super-thin shallow socket
Standard silicone based O-ring lube
Fine grit sanding sponge or equivalent

NOTE: Standard sockets are acceptable, will require socket face to be ground down
to allow for clearance with solenoid geometry.

WARNING: DO NOT use metal-based abrasives (ex. steel wool)

4.2 Procedure

Step 1: Remove JPT connector from solenoid. Note
the retaining clip.

Step 2: Using 22mm socket remove solenoid cap.

Step 3: Remove seal, then using 17mm socket
remove copper nut, and remove the solenoid.

Step 4: Remove old O-ring.

Step 5: If spring washer is stuck onto solenoid body
be sure to remove it.

Step 6: Using a 250-grit sanding sponge, remove
corrosion. Degrease with alcohol and a towel.
Repeat until corrosion is no longer visible. When
finished, allow alcohol to dry.

Step 7: Place the spring washer as shown in
solenoid body. Lube the large O-ring (Figure 1, Item
05) and install it into the new solenoid body.

Step 8: Carefully place the solenoid onto the valve
body. Orient solenoid body to match the old
solenoid.

CAUTION: Do not pinch or damage the Oring.

Step 9: Install the copper nut and torque to 8.8 Ftlb., see Figure 3.

Step 10: Place the small O-ring onto solenoid cap
(Item 01 in Figure 1). Ensure O-ring is lubed prior to
installation.

Step 11: Use a 20mm socket to install the solenoid
cap and torque to 6.6 Ft-lb., see Figure 3. Use the
jumper cable to connect the solenoid to electrical
harness.

CAUTION: Do not pinch or damage the Oring.

Step 12: Connect the male JPT connection to the
existing chassis loom disconnected in Step 1.
Connect the male super seal connector to the female
terminal on the coil.

CAUTION: Solenoid valve coils are designed to operate continuously for a lifecycle
of 22,000 hours and generate enough heat to cause burns if touched.

5. Warranty Statement
This procedure is covered under warranty. Standard repair time (SRT) is 0.5 hours for each
solenoid.
