Dealers must perform this Service Campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail
delivery and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair.
When a vehicle arrives at the service department, access Hyundai Motor America's "warranty
vehicle information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open campaigns.
Description: Certain 2017 Elantra (ADa) may have lower than specified torque on the fastener securing
the outside door handle(s). This may lead to improper operation of the outside door handle(s).
This bulletin describes the procedure to check and tighten the outside door handle cap screws as
required.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:
The procedures below are described for the driver side door. Procedure for passenger side and rear
doors are same as the driver side.
1.

Open the driver door and remove the black
cover to access the door handle base screw
using a trim tool.

CAUTION
Use No-Mar trim tool to prevent damage to paint.

Use torque tool to check the torque and
tighten screw as necessary.
Tightening torque: 7.8Nm – 10.8Nm
(0.8 ~ 1.1 kgf.m, 5.8 ~ 7.9 lb-ft)
Note: Click wrench or Digital torque wrench
can be used.
Set wrench to within spec limit 8.9 Nm
(0.9kgf.m, 6.6 lb-ft) recommended. Tighten
screw as needed. In some instances,
tightening may not be required.

CAUTION
Do not overtighten screw. This can damage
outside handle cap and may require replacement.
This will not be covered under warranty.

Reinstall black screw cover.
