POWER STEERING HOSE — BRACKET INSTALLATION (SC 127)

This bulletin provides the procedure for installation of a bracket to hold the power steering hose
in 2015 and 2016MY Sedona (YP) L, LX and EX vehicles, produced from June 17, 2014
through December 7, 2015. The insulation for the power steering hose may become worn as a
result of vibration contact with the exhaust manifold. To address this condition, Kia is launching
a Service Campaign to add a bracket to ensure the appropriate clearance is maintained
between the hose and the exhaust manifold, and to inspect, and if necessary, add additional
heat shielding to the power steering hose or to replace the power steering hose in case of
excessive wear damage.

Inspection Procedure:
1.

Place the vehicle on the lift.

WARNING
To avoid possible injury, allow the
engine to cool down before
performing the procedure.
2.

Inspect the power steering hose for
possible contact with the exhaust
manifold.

 NOTICE
Exhaust down pipe removed for
illustration only purposes.

3.

Grasp the base of the hose and twist
the heat shielding to inspect for
possible damage. If the power steering
hose heat shield does NOT show signs
of wear, proceed to Service Procedure
#1, on Page 4.

4.

If the power steering hose heat shield
exhibits signs of wear from vibration
contact (A), proceed to Service
Procedure #2, on Page 6. NOTE: any
shield cut through or (almost)
punctured from vibration contact
will require Service Procedure #2
and installation of additional heat
shield provided that the hose itself
is not damaged as described in step
5.

If in addition to the heat shield, the
power steering hose itself shows signs
of excessive wear (B), proceed to
Service Procedure #3, on Page 9.
NOTE: replace hose assembly ONLY
if it has been damaged by the heat
shield cutting into the rubber. Minor
rub marks or ‘polished’ appearance
are acceptable.

Service Procedure #1: Installing hose bracket ONLY
1.

Locate the lower power steering hose
attachment bracket (A) on the subframe (B).

To avoid possible injury, allow the
engine to cool down before
performing the procedure.

2.

Remove and retain the bolt securing
the power steering hose to the bracket.
Tightening torque :
5.1 ~ 8.0lb-ft (6.9 ~ 10.8 Nm)

3.

Install the new bracket (C) onto the
existing power steering hose bracket
(D) on the sub-frame, as shown.
NOTE: secure the new bracket in
place using the original bolt (E).

Carefully pull the power steering hose
(F) back until the mounting hole on the
original bracket aligns with the
mounting hole on the new bracket, as
shown. NOTE: Secure the original
bracket onto the new bracket using
the bolt (G) included with the
bracket kit.

Tightening torque :
5.1 ~ 8.0 lb-ft (6.9 ~ 10.8 Nm)

Inspect the power steering hose
routing to make sure there is
approximately
0.4”
(10mm)
of
clearance between the heat shield and
the exhaust manifold.

Service Procedure #2: Installing hose bracket and heat shield
1.

Install the bracket kit as described on
steps 1~3 of the first Service
Procedure.

2.

After the bracket kit has been installed,
use your fingers to increase the
diameter on either end of the new heat
shield (A), as shown.

Insert the end of the heat shield (B)
with the wider diameter over the
existing heat shield (C) on the power
steering hose, as shown.

 NOTICE
Do NOT remove the original heat
shield from the power steering
hose.

Assemble and tighten the reusable,
upper cable tie (D) on the heat shield,
as shown. Then, remove the excess
cable tie.

Install the third cable tie (E) onto the
heat shield at approximately the
halfway point, as shown. Then, remove
the excess cable tie.

Feed the new heat shield (F) until the
lower edge is flush with the lower edge
of the original heat shield.

Assemble and tighten the lower,
reusable cable tie (G), as shown. Then,
remove the excess cable tie. NOTE:
prior to tightening the lower cable
tie (G), rotate the heat shield,
counterclockwise, to move the open
slit in the heat shield away from the
manifold.

Use your hand to squeeze the entire
length of the heat shield (H), as shown,
to make sure it fits snuggly against the
original heat shield.

Inspect the power steering hose
routing to make sure there is a
minimum of 0.4” (10mm) of clearance
between the heat shield and the
exhaust manifold.

Service Procedure #3: Replacing pipe and hose assembly

 TIP:
In addition to the procedure provided in the service information for power steering
hose removal, refer to the service information to also remove the following
components:

Exhaust pipe

1.

Replace the affected power steering
hose by referring to Steering System
> Hydraulic Power Steering System
> Power Steering Hoses > Repair
Procedures in the applicable Service
Manual.

2.

Re-install
all
other
removed
components by reversing the order of
removal.

3.

Verify power steering fluid level and
replenish, as necessary. Additionally,
bleed the system per the procedure in
the service information.

 NOTICE
Make sure to wipe off any fluid
that may have leaked onto the
sub-frame, or other components.
4.

Start the vehicle to confirm proper
operation and inspect for any possible
leaks.
