Introduction
The purpose of this document is to provide recommended installation instruction for intermittent
wiper switch.
Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this publication until you understand the information
that is contained in this document.
Note: CAT units built prior to February 2013 were equipped with a three state switch.

This document will aid in the replacement of a three state switch to an intermittent switch.

Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and
understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and
Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the
warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Cat dealer for
replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.

Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel
working on the equipment.
To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from
the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of
the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with
other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.
Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform
personnel that the equipment is being worked on.
Place the machine on firm ground, lower all implements and release any pressure from the
hydraulic system before starting this procedure.

If any of the functions, such as park or washer, do not work, fix the problem before doing the
installation.
The reason to fix is because you will be reusing some of the hardware and wiring. Failure to do this
step can lead to extensive troubleshooting time on the wrong parts.
The installation will require the replacement of the MSM unit, installation of overlay harness,
installation of new switch.

The MSM unit is located behind the lower trim panel on passenger side. Remove all the lower trim
panel on the passenger side.

Push tree fasteners (1)
Right side kick panel (B) is fastened with three push tree connectors. Care must be taken not to
damage trim panels in removal. The push trees may be damaged, install new trees if needed.

Lower trim panel under fuse box is held by four screws (C) on top and four body clips (E). Care must
be taken when removing panel. Pull straight out on panel. Lower right body clip may break off. If clip
breaks off, install self tapping screw. Locate screw just to the right of the body clip to avoid slot (D)
in support.

After removing trim panel, remove existing MSM that is located behind the aluminum kick plate.
Remove kick plate, disconnect module, install new module (5). Wait to reinstall kick plate until after
harness has been installed.

Locate the relays onto the passengers side instrument panel lower support, using self tapping screw.

(AA) Route of pass through wires and MSM wires
Route harness wiper connections through the lower section of center console to driver side. Route
over steering column to left side of column.
Route the pass through wires (AA) and MSM wires to right side over air duct under fuse panel.
