Dear Collins Bus Corporation Customer
Issue Date: September 19, 2014
Subject: Positive Battery Cable Routing
Models Affected: Certain Collins Bus Diesel Models where no battery box is present.
Notes: This service bulletin is intended to assist Collins Bus distributors, their
customers and/or service shops in the proper techniques for repair and maintenance.
Issues described in this bulletin may not apply to all Collins Bus units. Authorized
technicians will be able to decide whether or not a unit with similar issues will benefit
from the provided information.
Details: Information contained in this bulletin will help you better find and repair
potential issues with Positive Battery Cable Routing on certain Collins Bus diesel
engine models where no battery box is present. Please follow the instructions
provided with each picture for details on this potential issue and suggested repair.
Issue: The Positive Battery Cable may have been routed under the heat shield.
NOTE: We have not observed or heard of this cable routing causing any ill effects in
the field. Please contact us if you have observed or experienced any issues.
Location: Passenger side between frame rail and exhaust manifold heat shield.

1. Begin by disconnecting the cable from the battery on RH frame rail.
(To avoid shock or spark, tape cable end to insulate)
Location: Passenger side behind entrance door mounted on frame rail.

2. Next disconnect the cable from the OEM 3 stud terminal under the
hood.
Location: Passenger side under hood - mounted by radiator fills.

3. Pull the battery cable back out to the point where it was routed through
the OEM heat shield.

4. Route the battery cable around the OEM heat shield. Follow along the
heater hoses out through the fender.
Location: Passenger side frame rail behind front tire.

5. Reconnect the battery cable at the OEM 3 stud terminal.
Location: Passenger side under hood - mounted by radiator fills.
(Caution : This has a torque spec of 70 in/lbs)

6. Reconnect the battery cable to the battery on the RH frame rail.
Location: Passenger side behind Entrance doors mounted on
frame rail.
(Caution : This has a torque spec of 140 in/lbs)

Time Allowed to reroute battery cable.
