Fulton Weld-On Mounting Bracket

(Used with XP and XLT series jacks)

Dear Cequent Customer:

Cequent Performance Products, Inc. has identified a quality issue related to the holes on
Fulton Weld-On Mounting Brackets, Part No. P9012-00. Our records indicate that some
of these products were shipped to your company for installation as original equipment
on boat trailers. This bulletin provides instructions on how you or your customers can
resolve the issue. We also request that you quarantine and return any remaining stock.
This applies to product shipped between 1/1/2014 and 2/11/2016.

What is the Problem?

Due to manufacturing process variations, the holes on some Fulton Weld-On Mounting
Brackets may be out of specification, which may make it difficult (or in the case of
extreme variance, impossible) for the Pull Pin to fully seat into the Weld-On Mounting
Bracket hole(s).

What Should You Do?

Refer to the attached “/nspection and Rework Instructions” and follow the steps
contained in those instructions to ensure the Pull Pin will properly engage the Weld-On
Mounting Bracket.

Fulton Weld-On Mounting Bracket

Inspection and Rework Instructions

Review the following steps to ensure the Pull Pin will properly engage the Weld-On
Mounting Bracket.

A. DEFINITION OF PIN ENGAGEMENT

A proper engagement for an XLT series jack pin is defined as the pin entering the hole
until the pin is stopped by the “nibs” (circled) located near the handle of the pin. See
Figures 1 & 2.

For an XP series jack pin, full engagement is defined as the “shepherd’s hook” engaging
up to the inner radius of the first bend. See Figures 3 & 4.

In either case, the most consistent way to ensure full engagement is by noting if the pin
extends past the back face of the Weld-On Mounting Bracket. See Figure 5. This can be
done by reaching behind the bracket and feeling for the pin, or by visual confirmation. In
the event of a partial or non-engagement of the pins (as seen in Figures 6 & 7), please
continue with the REWORK PROCEDURE below.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Attach trailer to tow vehicle. Use vehicle’s parking brake and chock wheels of
trailer.

Confirm Pull Pin engagement by slowly rotating the jack to all four locking
positions.

In each locking position, rotate the handle 360 degrees or one full rotation.
For XP series jacks, this is not possible. Rotate the shepherd’s hook as far as it
can go before contacting the jack leg in either direction. The pin should not
bind in the hole. See Figures 8 & 9.

If the Pull Pin was unable to fully engage in any of the four positions, or was
unable to freely rotate in the hole, please continue with the REWORK
PROCEDURE below.

C. REWORK PROCEDURE
1. Remove the jack from the Weld-On Mounting Bracket.

Using a %” wrench, remove the locknut located between the leg of the

jack and the bracket attached to jack, save locknut. See Figure 10.

Remove bushing and note its orientation, save the bushing.

2. Using a 33/64” (0.515”) drill bit, drill out each of the four holes. See Figure

ad.

Ensure the trailer is secure.

Grip drill firmly.

Carefully and slowly keep drill perpendicular to hole and ensure all four
holes are drilled completely.

Only a small amount of material will be removed, this is all that is
necessary.

D. CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
1. Clean any debris remaining from the drilling operation.

2. Mount the jack to the bracket.

e Place jack over the threaded fastener of the Weld-On Mounting Bracket.
e Slide the bushing over the threaded fastener in the same orientation it
was removed, followed by locknut. See Figure 12.

e Torque locknut to 25 ft. Ibs.
3. After assembly, repeat the steps outlined in the INSPECTION PROCEDURE

above.
