Crane Units built between serial numbers 0313FS0002 and 1014FS0194.
Refer to SIL 608 for items covered under the warranty policy. Altec will supply necessary parts to
correct this condition.
In order to determine if your unit is affected by SIL 608, compare the serial number of your unit with
the list of affected units as described on the SIL. The repair can be performed by the customer or you

number to determine if there are any other outstanding notices.

Dual Operation Function Kit
Altec is committed to providing our customers with safe and reliable products from initial
delivery throughout the useful life of the machine.
AC45-127S model units can be delivered with the option to allow configuration for ASME
B30.5 material handling operation as a crane as well as ANSI A92.2 aerial mode operation as
a conventional aerial device. These units can be used for lifting operations by certified/
qualified crane operators as well as by trained/qualified aerial device operators in the aerial
mode of operation. Each mode of operation has characteristics that should provide satisfactory
operation while maintaining the working envelopes required for standards compliance.
Productive crane lifting operations require hydraulic flow capacities that exceed those
generally needed for aerial device operation. When configured for aerial device operation
function speeds may be somewhat faster then when configured and loaded for crane operations. On the subject units speeds are controlled by the operator using the proportional
controls.
Current production models of Altec dual rated products have incorporated a system to reduce
certain function speeds when configured for aerial device operation. A similar system has been
developed to bring the subject field units up to the current production specifications. This
system reduces the potential for operator to misuse the controls and induce high dynamic loads
through rapid starts, stops, and control reversals.
This system is now available as a kit that Altec recommends be installed to reduce the function
speed of boom raise/lower and rotation when the A92.2 aerial mode of operation is selected.
The reduction in the speed of these functions will increase operator confidence and allow better
control in the aerial mode. The selection of the A92.2 mode is done using the LMAP. The kit
includes an indicator light on the lower boom that shows the operator in the platform the
selected mode of operation. Full operating speed for crane boom raise/lower and rotation will
only be available when the B30.5 crane mode is selected by the operator again using the LMAP.
Use the following chart to determine the necessary parts required for individual units. Units
with a Hirschmann LMAP require additional items to perform the update. Order parts by

AFFECTED

Altec is providing two placards, part number 990026849, with this SIL to be installed on the
unit. These placards are to remind the operator of operating characteristics while using the
crane. Install the placards inside the unit cab and the inside the platform used on the crane (refer
to Figure 1).

This update is covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the
customer, or the customer’s warranty provider. Altec will allow up to $680 for the labor to
perform this repair. A warranty claim must be submitted to be reimbursed for the cost of the
parts and/or labor. Call 1-877-GO ALTEC (1-877-462-5832) to schedule the work to be done
by an Altec service technician. Customers are responsible for the travel costs of an Altec
Mobile Service technician if the technician performs the repair at the owner’s location.
