Subject:

Detonation, Spark Knock and/or Rattle Noise on Light Acceleration, Malfunction
Indicator Lamp (MIL) On, DTC P0324 and/or P0326 Set

Models:

2010 Chevrolet Equinox
2010 GMC Terrain
Equipped with 4 Cylinder Engine (VIN W – RPO LAF)

This PI is being revised to add a diagnose before reprogramming statement under the
Recommendation/Instructions and update Warranty Information. Please discard PI0325A.

Condition/Concern
Some customers may comment on a detonation/spark knock/rattle noise when accelerating (1500 to 1900 RPM).
This condition may be accompanied by a malfunction indicator lamp and is present on ONLY partial throttle, light
load conditions. A technician can duplicate this condition while brake torquing the vehicle in the stall.
When checking the vehicle for DTCs, the ECM may report P0324 and/or P0326 set as current or in history.

Recommendation/Instructions
Review the diagnostics in SI for this condition prior to reprogramming.
A revised calibration has been developed to address this concern. Update the ECM module using the Service
Programming System (SPS) with the latest software available on TIS2WEB. Refer to the Service Programming
System (SPS) procedures in SI.
When using a Tech 2® or a Multiple Diagnostic Interface (MDI) for reprogramming, ensure that it is updated with the
latest software version. During programming, the battery voltage must be maintained within the proper range of
12-15 volts. Only use the approved Midtronics® PSC 550 Battery Maintainer (SPS Programming Support Tool
EL-49642) or equivalent during programming.
