Condition
• The customer may report that the tail lamp lighting does not switch between the rear lid and the bumper when
the lid is operated.
• DTC 03073 (Rear lid -closed- sensor) may be stored in the comfort system central control module, J393
(address word 46).

Technical Background
In order for the taillight lighting to switch between the rear lid and the bumper when the lid is operated, the paddle
switches on the rear sill trim must contact the opposing lid latch points uniformly.
• Paddle switch G526 (Figure 1, 2) must contact
lid latch point 1 (Figure 1, 1), as shown in the
image at right.
• Paddle switch G525 (Figure 1, 4) must contact
lid latch point 3 (Figure 1, 3), as shown in the
image at right.

In the Audi Q7:
When the rear lid is opened, the paddle switches change state and the comfort system central control module 2,
J773, will read G525 and G526. It will then communicate to the comfort system central control module, J393, to

control the taillight lighting from lid to bumper.
In the Audi Q5:
The comfort system central control module, J393, reads the switches directly to control the taillights.

Service
1. Remove the rear trim plate:
• In the Audi Q7: Remove the four T25
Torx® screws (Figure 2), then carefully
pull up on the plate.
• In the Audi Q5: The plate is not held by
screws. Carefully lift the plate straight up,
noting the four clips retained in the trim.

2. Note the current position of the striker plate by
using the serrated lines surrounding the bolt or
surrounding the nut’s integrated washer (Figure
3 - Figure 6).
Tip: Use a permanent marker to mark
original position.

3. Adjust the striker plate until the lid latch is evenly
drawn in to actuate the G526 and G525 paddle
switches (Figure 7, 2 and 4). Center the striker
plate latch to the lid latch.

4. Adjust until the lid is able to close smoothly with
proper switch actuation, resulting in the proper
lighting switchover.

Tip: Moving the striker plate latch towards
the front of the vehicle will bring the lid latch
closer to actuating the paddle switches (Figure
8).

5. Clear DTC(s) and confirm that the tail lamp lighting switches as expected.
