Condition
• Customer may report that the vehicle does not start due to a discharged battery.
• DTC U101100 (supply voltage too low) is stored in the gateway, J533 (address word 19), and/or the electronic
parking brake (EPB) control module, J540 (address word 53).
• According to the test plan “19-Read Data Bus Keep-Awake Manager”, the EPB control module kept the data
bus active for prolonged periods of time.

Technical Background
The EPB switch appears to be permanently operating (applying or releasing the parking brake) due to an internal
mechanical issue or because it is jammed or blocked by debris or by a foreign object.
Test plan “19-Read Data Bus Keep-Awake Manager”, identifies the EPB control module as keeping the data bus
active for prolonged periods of time.

On 23.09.2013 at 12:33:43 O'clock:
The control module with diagnostic address 53 kept the bus awake for 20.6 hours.

Production Solution
New EPB software prevents discharge of the battery due to a faulty or jammed EPB switch:

1. Confirm that the EPB control module, J540 (address word 53), has been identified in test plan “19-Read Data
Bus Keep-Awake Manager” as keeping the data bus active for prolonged period of time.
2. Identify the suffix of the control module and proceed with the appropriate scenario below.
Scenario 1 - If the suffix is A, B, C, D, or E:
1. DO NOT replace the EPB control unit.
2. Check if the EPB switch is jammed or blocked by a foreign object.
• If it is jammed or blocked, removed the foreign object.
• If it is not jammed or blocked, replace the EPB switch.
Scenario 2 - If the suffix is F:
1. Update the EPB control unit using the SVM Update Instructions below.

1. Follow all instructions in TSB 2011732: 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.
2. Update the J540 (address word 53) using the SVM action code as listed in the table below if necessary.
