Audi Side Assist deactivates itself immediately following the engine starting. The DTC entry "Control unit 2 for
lane changing assistant - restricted function because of low voltage, sporadic" is logged in the control unit “ 3C
– Lane Change Assistant” .

Technical Background
The control unit “ 3C – Lane Change Assistant” checks voltage after each engine on cycle and during this
check the voltage can be incorrectly reported which causes the DTC to set.

Production Solution
The software of the 3C – Lane Change Assistant control unit has been optimized to remove this condition.

Service
The service solution is to use an SVM code to update the software in the 3C – Lane Change Assistant control
unit, but not all versions of the Lane Change Assistant control unit can be software updated. If a replacement
control unit must be ordered, then it is important that after receiving the replacement control unit, the software of
this new control unit is checked to ensure it has the latest software. In most cases the software will need to be
updated in the new replacement control unit.
Tip: This repair procedure includes calibration of the 3C – Lane Change Assistant control unit. Please
ensure the complete VAS 6350 calibration kit is available and the appropriate area within the workshop is
available for the calibration procedure.
1. Using VSD, check the software part numbers of the 3C – Lane Change Assistant master and slave and write
them down on a piece of paper. The slave control unit will be listed below the master information and will be
labeled “ Sub-Bus System”
a. For S/W part numbers 8T0907566B and 8T0907568B, no service update is available. There is known
technical issue with these latest parts. Please contact the Technical Assistance Helpline for further
assistance.
b. For S/W part numbers 8T0907566A and 8T0907568A, a software update is available and no replacement
is required. Skip step 2 and continue on to step 3.
c. For S/W part numbers 8T0907566 and 8T0907568, a software update is not available and the master and
slave control units must be replaced with software part numbers 8T0907566A and 8T0907568A,
respectively. Move on to step 2.
2. Replace the master and slave control units for Lane Change Assistance according to the instructions listed in
the ElsaWeb Repair manual. Repair Manual>>Electrical System>>Electrical Equipment>>96 Interior Lights,

J769/J770, 2-Door or 5-Door
3. Using VSD, check the current software version of the 3C – Lane Change Assistant.
a. If the version is 0040 then update the 3C - Lane Change Assistant master control unit via SVM using the
instructions in step 4.
b. If the software version is 0047 then no software update is required. Please proceed to step 5 to calibrate
the system only if the control units were replaced.

c. If no replacement was performed, no software update was performed (because the control unit was at
0047 already), and the customer’ s complaint can be repeated, then please contact the Audi Technical
Assistance Center for further assistance. This TSB does not apply.
4. SVM Update Instructions
a. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating

instructions.
b. Update the Lane Change Assistant (J769) using the SVM action code as listed in the table below if
necessary.

This Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) details the general process for carrying out a Software Version Management
(SVM) software update for any TSB or Update.
Troubleshooting information is included in the Additional Information section.
Please refer to the upcoming TSBs covering detailed aspects of SVM. They will be listed under group “99”.

Technical Background
SVM was developed with the main goal of ensuring each Audi vehicle has the correct electronic control units with
the correct software versions installed when it leaves the dealership repair facility.

SVM is a feature of GFF that has a subset of
functions or components as seen in Figure 1. These
functions are explained below. A VAS 5051B, VAS
5052A, or VAS 6150(A/B/C) diagnostic tool is
required to read out the vehicle control unit data and
send it to the SVM server (also called an “SVM
communication”).

1. SVM – Specified/actual comparison
Goal: This function is designed to ensure all electronic control units installed in the vehicle have the correct
part numbers, software versions, coding and parameterization. It will not suggest a control unit software
update. During this SVM communication, the part numbers and software versions of the actual control units
installed in the vehicle will be sent to the SVM servers. This “actual” data is then compared to the “specified”
data in the SVM database for a particular vehicle. The specified data stored on the SVM servers is also
referred to as the vehicle “reference”.
What an SVM Spec/Actual can do:
• Document any changes to an electronic control unit’s hardware/software part numbers, hardware/software
versions, and provide feedback to the user if these changes are accepted or rejected.
• When new parts are installed, it will also calculate coding changes or parameterization changes. If a
“hardware replacement suggestion” is given, then a conflict exists with the vehicle reference for that
control unit (i.e. SVM expects a different part number or software version for the control unit in question).

• As a rule, SVM will not allow a control unit with the same part number as the original part to be installed if
the new part contains an older software revision. In this situation, SVM will return a hardware change

suggestion . In these special cases a new vehicle reference must be manually set by an Audi Product
Support Engineer. Please contact the Technical Assistance Center Helpline if you suspect this is the
case.
2. SVM - Direct Input: SVM code for problem related update
Goal: This function performs any additional functions which cannot be performed with an SVM Spec/Actual.
Those functions include the following.
What an SVM code can do:
• Update the software in a flash-capable control unit if the SVM code is valid for the vehicle.
