SUBJECT:
Convertible Top Will Not Open
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin describes a potential cause of convertible top malfunction and corrective
action is covered.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with convertible top sales code
5ZTS built on or before January 8, 2013 (MOH 0108.XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a situation when the convertible top does not open.
DIAGNOSIS:
1. If the customer complaint can be confirmed to match the described
Symptom/Condition, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Position both front seats full forward and tilt front seat backs forward to gain access to
rear seat cushion .
2. Release the lower seat cushion by pulling upward at right and left front edge of the
cushion to disengage the seat cushion retainer from the floor. Remove the lower seat
cushion from the vehicle (Fig. 1).

Using a trim stick or equivalent, gently pry up on the left armresUcup holder and
remove from the quarter trim panel (Fig. 2).

Remove one attachment screw from the left quarter trim panel (Fig. 3 ).

Using a trim stick or equivalent, gently pry out on the left quarter trim panel and
remove from vehicle (Fig . 4).

Locate the power top control module ground connection located behind the left quarter
trim panel (Fig. 5).

Remove the power top control module grounding nut (1) and ground wire terminal (2 )
from the body grounding stud (Fig. 6).

Inspect the flat surface of the body grounding stud for paint and foreign material that
may prevent a good electrical ground connection . Use emery cloth to clean the flat
surface of the grounding stud to ensure good ground terminal contact (Fig. 7).

Install the power top control module ground wire (1) and grounding nut (2) to the body
grounding stud (Fig. 8). Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (79.7 in. lbs.).

10. Test the convertible top function. If convertible top does not function properly, refer to
service documentation for further diagnosis.
11 . If convertible top functions properly, open top fully leaving deck lid in raised position for
access.
12. Using a trim stick or equivalent, remove the rear shelf/retractor/seat back cover(Fig. 9).

13. Remove two bolts at top of rear seat securing rear seat back to body (Fig . 10).

14. Tilt rear seat back down for installation access of left rear quarter trim panel (Fig. 11 ).

15. Install the left rear quarter trim panel (1 ), rear seat back (2), rear shelf/retractor/seat
back cover, and rear seat cushion (3). Refer to the detailed repair procedures
available in: DealerConnect> TechCONNECT under: 23 - Body> Interior> PANEL,
Quarter Trim> Installation> CONVERTIBLE (Fig. 12).
