Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) of its intent to perform a voluntary Safety Recall on 2014 and certain
2015 model year Jaguar F-TYPE vehicles imported into the United States market. Information
relating to the Recall will be posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
website.
United States Federal regulations require that retailers must be advised of this Recall
notification within three working days after government notification.
United States Federal law requires retailers to complete any outstanding safety Recall service
before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a
retailer could result in a civil penalty of up to $7,000.00 per vehicle.
This Service Bulletin serves as notification to all Jaguar retailers in the United States and Puerto
Rico that any affected new vehicles may not be sold and delivered for customer use until the
Recall repair is completed.
NOTE: Safety Recall J047 supersedes Update Prior to Sale UPS8014-2b, as detailed in Service
Bulletin 6-251NAS, with immediate effect.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
A total of 7,079 2014-2015 model year Jaguar F-TYPE (X152) vehicles in the USA are affected.
The VIN range of affected vehicles is SAJWA6FC6E8K00001 - SAJXA6DA1FMK19747.
DESCRIPTION OF DEFECT
A concern has been identified where the seatbelt assembly harness connector which connects the
Seatbelt Tension Sensor (STS) to the Occupant Classification Sensor Control Module (OCSCM) may
not be correctly wired. The wires are located in the incorrect terminals within the connector.
EFFECT ON VEHICLE OPERATION
In the event that the seatbelt assembly harness STS is wired incorrectly, the Occupant Classification
System (OCS) will transmit a signal which does not indicate the installation of a child seat or the
presence of a small person. In this case of a child seat being fitted, the OCS will not disable the
passenger airbag. If a small person is present in the passenger seat, the Passenger Airbag
Deactivation indicator (PADi) lamp will indicate that the seat is not occupied and the Supplementary
Restraint System (SRS) will not deploy if required.
In the event of a vehicle crash, the passenger side SRS may not provide the required level of
occupant protection increasing the risk of occupant injury.
Jaguar Land Rover is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries attributed to this condition.
SERVICE PROGRAM / REWORK ACTION
Vehicle owners will be notified and instructed to take their vehicle to an authorized Jaguar dealer
who will correct the harness connector wire configuration. There will be no charge to owners for this
repair.

OWNER NOTIFICATION
Mailing of owner notification letters will occur on or before 5 January 2015.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
Retailers are required to check DDW to ensure a vehicle is affected by Program Code ‘J047’ and
HOLD all affected new vehicles in your control and withhold them from onward distribution pending
completion of the rework action. Sold vehicles will be subject to the standard Recall notification and
Recall bulletin process detailing the action required for vehicles in the hands of owners.
Retailers are advised that the use of vehicles within the affected model year / VIN range as
Sales Demonstrator or Service Loaner vehicles may be considered a violation of Federal
legislation. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC recommends against using affected vehicles
for demonstrator or loaner purposes. Please consult your own legal counsel if you have
questions in this regard.

What is the concern?

A

Jaguar Land Rover is conducting a safety recall involving 2014 and certain 2015 Model
Year F-TYPE vehicles with occupant classification system fitted due to a concern with the
operation of the SRS where a child restraint system is used or the seat is occupied by a
small person. In the event of a crash the passenger side SRS may not provide the
required level of occupant protection. In this condition there is an increased risk of injury
to the vehicle occupants.

Can you tell me more about what is wrong with the vehicles?

A

On F-TYPE 2014 and 2015 Model Year vehicles fitted with occupant classification system,
the seatbelt assembly harness connector which connects the seatbelt tension sensor to
the occupant classification sensor control module (OCSCM) may not be correctly wired.
The wires are located in the incorrect terminals within the connector. The main purpose
of the OCSCM is to provide the occupant classification sensor with the occupancy status
of the passenger seat. The restraints control module (RCM) uses this information and the
seatbelt buckle status in the determination of the firing strategy for the passenger
restraints. The main purpose of the seatbelt tension sensor is to ensure that if a child seat
is fitted using the auto-locking seatbelt to restrain it in the passenger seat, the tension
exerted on the seatbelt tension sensor indicates that a child seat is fitted. The RCM uses
this information and the OCSCM status to determine the firing strategy for the passenger
restraints. In both cases the occupant classification sensor should determine if the front
passenger seat is unoccupied, occupied by a child seat or small person, or occupied by
an adult. In the event that the seatbelt assembly harness seatbelt tension sensor is wired
incorrectly, the occupant classification system will transmit a signal which does not
indicate the installation of a child seat or the presence of a small person. In this case of a
child seat being fitted, the occupant classification sensor will not disable the passenger
airbag, if a small person is present in the passenger seat the passenger airbag
deactivation indicator (PADi) will indicate that the seat is not occupied and the
Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) will not deploy if required.

A

Should this condition exist, the driver will be alerted as, where a child restraint system is
used, the passenger airbag deactivation indicator will extinguish whereas with a small
person the passenger airbag deactivation indicator will remain illuminated with the seat
occupied.

A

Should this condition exist, the SRS system may not operate as intended in the event of
crash of sufficient severity to require passenger airbag deployment. All vehicle occupants
should use the seatbelts fitted.
