This bulletin provides the procedure for upgrading the navigation system on some 2014MY
Soul (PS), Optima (QF) and Sorento (XM) vehicles . Follow the procedure outlined in this TSB
to update the operating system for the navigation unit. Kia is requesting the completion of this
Service Action on all affected vehicles in dealer st ock, prior to delivery. Before conducting
the procedure, verify that the vehicle is included in th e list of th e affected VINs.

*NOTICE
This is a software upgrade for the navigation operating system and NOT a map
upgrade.

*NOTICE
A Service Action is a repair program without customer notification that is performed
during the warranty period . Any dealer requesting to perform this repair outside the
warranty peri,od will require DPSM approval.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on WebDCS (Service> Warranty Coverage>
Warranty Coverage Inquiry> Campaign Information). Not completed Recall/ Service
Action reports are available o n WebDCS (Consumer Affairs> Not Completed Recall>
Recall VIN> Select Report), which includes a list of affected vehicles.

(For Soul (PS) update, proceed to Page 5)

*NOTICE
•

A fully charged battery is necessary before Navigation System upgrade can
take place. It is recomm ended that the Midtronics GRB-1299 system be used,
in ECM mode, during charging . DO NOT connect any other battery charger to
the vehicle during audio head unit upgrade.

•

This update is not compatible with the GOS Audio Update
Module (AUM) and will require t he use of an SD Card.

•

SD Cards containing the AVN Operating System upgrade were
shipped directly to all Kia dealers and are addressed to the
Service Manager.

1.

Start the vehicle or connect the Midtronics GRB-1299 charger.

2.

Remove the map SD ca rd from the slot
and insert the upgrade SD Card .

*NOTICE

The AVN system will be restarted
automatica lly after five (5) seconds.

The upgrade screen will be displa yed
and the system will install 6 updates .

*NOTICE

If the upgrade screen does not
display automatically, press
mD >Setup> System Update
>Update.

•

Do NOT turn the vehicle OFF
while the update is in progress.

If the AVN update is successful, the
system will be turned OFF and the
display will go dark.

*NOTICE
If the AVN update fails, turn the
ignition OFF and restart the
procedure from step 1.

6.

Press the power button to turn the
AVN system ON . Then, remove the
upgrade SO card from the slot and reinsert the map SD card. Allow the
system to restart and touch Agree on
the screen.

1.

Start the vehicle or connect the Midtronics GR8-1 299 charger.

2.

Touch Agree on the screen.

3.

Press the SETUP button. Then , scroll
to the bottom of the page and touch
System Info on the screen.

4.

Verify the Original software version
matches one of the versions shown in
the table below:

Touch Update on the screen.

Remove the map SD Card from the
slot and insert the upgrade SD Card .
Then , touch OK.

*NOTICE
Th is AVN update will take
approximately 25 -30 minutes to
complete.

7.

The system wi ll first prepare the
update and then installation will begin.
After the update is installed , the
system wi ll restart automatically.

*NOTICE
Do NOT turn the vehicle OFF while
the update is in progress .

After the system restarts, the update
will continue with Sub Micom and Main
Micom updates.

*NOTICE
Do NOT turn the vehicle OFF while
the update is in progress.

9.

After the Micom updates are complete ,
the system will restart. The system will
then check various parameters and will
perform a final restart.

*NOTICE
If at any point the AVN update
fa ils, turn the ignition OFF and
resta rt the procedure from step 1.

10.

Once the system has restarted ,
remove the upgrade SD card from the
slot and re-insert the map SD card .
Allow the system to restart and then
press SETUP > System Info to verify
the upgrade software version number
matches the information shown below:
