Operation Number Structure for Diagnosis Jobs

Diagnosis activities are to be coded within the structure of the operation number group.
These operation codes are grouped together in the respective design groups with the number
range XX-0640 to XX-0999 (see the table below) and are always assigned to the system to be
diagnosed. Generally, "54-1011 Perform quick test" will be used when starting diagnosis. After the
quick test, the system test for each of the design groups will be listed .
If it is necessary to perform another quick test in the course of the repair order, then this mu st be
invoiced via the operation codes for diag nosis and testing work.
The diagnosis structure following on the quick test depends on whether a fault code has been
stored for the customer compla int. This shou ld be taken into account when preparing the order.
The following application rule always applies to the necessary test operations:
1. Use of the operation code with the ending "O"e.g. XX-0640, XX-0660, XX-0700, ... ), if:
no fault code is stored but a reprod ucible customer complaint is present and further test
operations are necessary
2. Use of operation codes with the ending "1" (e.g. XX-0641 , XX-0661 , XX-0701 , ...),if:
a fault code has been stored .
3. The joint use of diagnostic operations, e.g. XX-0640 and XX-0641 , is permissible only in
justified cases. The justification for common use must be entered in the message field or
the operation item may be rejected. This would be a unique circumstance.
Some specific tests are applied as individual operation codes with working hours or ZM time such
as (but not limited to) :

On some selected models the operation items listed replace operation item 82-0700 "Check
commun ication system (after quick test)".
Telematics diagnosis operations on the model series without published operation codes listed
above should be carried out under operation codes 82-0700 and 82-0701 .
In all other design groups, the structure and procedures for the diagnosis work on control units with
fault codes is shown in the same way.
The operation code 82-9905 for COMAND remains valid . Items 80-XXXX for key programming or
teach-in remain unchanged.
The operation code 54-101 O "Check electrical system, establish findings" or 82-1015 " Establish
diagnosis on the electrica l system" are available for diagnosis work, if no special diagnosis
operation item is available within the affected design group. Combination of this/these operation
codes with test items of the diagnosis structure described is not permiss ible.
