IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNI NG UPDATING THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE

This action affects MY 13, Models 172 and 204 veh icl es with engine 271, w hich may be at your
dealers h ip , a nd MUST B E completed immediately and prior to vehicle retail.
This Ser vice Campaign is being launched today and the 13,364 affected vehicles will be flagged in
VMI.
Background
This Service Campa ign has been initiated beca use Daim ler AG (DAG), the manufactu rer of Mercedes-Benz
vehicles, has det ermined that the engine control module softwa re may not meet current specifications in the
subject vehicles. Dealers will update the engine cont ro l module softwa re prior to vehicl e delivery.
Parts - No parts are required . Software update rate is 100%. Use Xent ry / DAS version 09/ 201 2 with
add-on 2520
Ow ner Notificati on - As this is a voluntary custo mer care initiative, no customer letter will be mailed.
A copy of the campaign bulletin is attached, and may also be found on StarTekl nfo.
When schedu ling custom ers for an appoi ntment please ensure that you are aware of any ope n campaigns in
VMI so that the customer is advised about the time necessary to complete all campaign s.
Note: VM I must always be checked before performi ng campaigns to verify that the campaign is requi red on a
specifi c vehic le.
Dealers may also identify veh icles subject to a campaign through NetStar by selecting "Campa ign" under t he
Cont rolling tab. Only vehic les that have been reta iled by t he respective dea ler will be displayed within this
program .

Update Engine Control Module Software

Daim ler AG (DAG ), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that the Engine Control
Module Software may not meet current specifications in the subject vehicles. Dealers will update the
Engine Control Module Software at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously

Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as

Procedure
Note:

•

Use DAS/Xentry 09/12 with add-on 2520 or higher.

•

Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS/Xentry.

•

Connect battery charger.

1. Connect Star Diagnosis to vehicle .
2. Update ME-SFI [ME] control module software: Control unit view I ME-SFI motor electronics I Adaptations

I Control unit programming.
3.

Follow on-screen instructions.

Note:

After updating ME software, the software version should be: 27 19025400_001 ; 2719030006_00 1 or 1006.
