CORRODED CRIMP CONNECTOR IN CONDENSER COMPARTMENT
CONDITIONS

Parts may be purchased from MCI Service Parts, Louisville, Kentucky.

Description:
MCI is notifying our customers at the request of Mobile Climate Control ( MCC ) regarding a potential issue with the
wiring in the condenser compartment. The absence of heat shrink on a crimp connector in the condenser
compartment could result in corrosion of the wires .
MCI is instructing customers operating coaches between the unit numbers, and including, 66032 to 66912 on
roadways that utilize rock salt, magnesium chloride or calcium chloride to salt and de-ice the road surface to
inspect the crimp connector for signs of corrosion , ensuring proper operation of the air conditioning ( A/C ) unit.

To avoid personal injury, position the ENGINE RUN and ENGINE START switches on the engine
compartment remote control box to the OFF position.

1.

Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position .

2. Chock both sides of the tires .
3. Locate the evaporator motor and condenser motors circuit breakers in the battery compartment. Position
both circuit breakers to the OFF position .
4. Locate and open the roadside fuel fill door.
5. Locate and lift the latch handle installed beside the roadside fuel fill door. Open the A/C condenser
compartment door.
6. Locate and disconnect the overflow tube from the fuel spill tray ( refer to Figure 1 ).

7. Remove and retain the capscrews that mount the front cover panel to the condenser unit. Remove the front
cover panel and place aside to be re-installed at a later step in this procedure.

8. Locate the wires shown in Figure 2.

9. Proceed with Step 1 of the attached MCC Product Technical Bulletin TB201403 , following all warnings and
cautions therein.

10. Upon completion of MCC Product Technical Bulletin TB201403 , re-install the front cover panel using
existing capscrews . Tighten to secure.
11 . Re-connect the overflow tube to the fuel spill tray. Close the A/C condenser compartment door.
12. Position the evaporator motor and condenser motors circuit breakers in the battery compartment to the ON
position
Procedure Complete.

Kit 19-0810 includes the following parts:
Heat shrink tubing MCC P/N 31-1171 40mm [1.6in]
Butt splice MCC P/N 31-1872 (T /E P/N: 322459)
Tools/Parts required.
Soldering Iron
Solder
Heat gun
Wire cutter
Wire stripper
Butt splice crimping tool TE P/N : 49935 or equivalent

Read, understand and follow all instructions given below.
Make sure main electrical power is switched off or disconnected before
servicing vehicle.
Control circuits used in air conditioning systems are low 12124 Volts DC.
This voltage potential is not considered dangerous, but the large amount of
current available (over 30 Amperes) can cause severe burns if shorted to
ground.
Do not wear jewelry, watches or rings. These items can short out electrical
circuits and cause severe burns to wearer and others.
Keep body parts away from any rotating and moving parts on HVAC unit at
all times.

1. Cut off corroded butt connection with wire
cutters .

2. Strip 10mm [0.4in] of insulation off each wire
to be butt spliced .

4. Crimp splice terminal with crimping tool. For
proper crimping, please consult crimping
tool instructions.

5. Apply solder to butt splice connection .

3. Insert butt connector on to stripped wire to be
butt spliced .

6. Slide heat shrink tubing with adhesive over
butt spice terminal. Leave a 10 mm [0 .4in] of
overlap at the open end of the butt connection .

7. Apply heat on heat shrink tubing .

8. Close the open end of the heat shrink tubing
with pl iers before heat shrink tubing and
adhesive sets .
