Technical product information
Customer statement I workshop findings
The vehicle is to be fitted with 21" winter tyres or 20" snow chains and the infotainment unit is
displaying only 20" winter tyre
Technical background
Currently the Infotainment unit (RNS) is programmed during manufacture to display only the 20" winter
tyre option.
If the vehicle is to be fitted with 21" winter tyre option or 20" snow chain option then additional software
can be loaded into the infotainment system to enable the correct tyre detail to be displayed
Production change
It is expected that these additional winter tyre options will be incorporated into the software during the
2013 MY production
Measure
Figure 1
If the vehicle is to have 21" winter tyre or 20" snow chains fitted and these options are not currently
offered up for selection in the infotainment unit (see Figure 1) then the following process can be
performed
3
Technical product information
Process 1: Check current software level
1. To check current software level
•
If not already powered up switch on Infotainment unit via ON/OFF button
Figure 2
•
Once the unit has powered up press and hold the CAR button for at least 5 seconds. That is until
the screen displays Radio service mode (see Figure 2 and 3)
Figure 3
•
In the Radio service mode screen select Version info (see Figure 3)
4
Technical product information
Figure 4
•
In the Version info screen note the Delivery part number, HW-Version and the SW-Version
•
Reference the displayed Delivery part number, HW-Version and SW-Version against the chart
shown in figure 5 below. If the numbers displayed are all listed in the same row in the left hand,
production part, columns of the chart, then the infotainment unit software update will be required
before the additional winter tyre options can be selected. In this case process 3 will have to be
carried out followed by process 2.
•
If the numbers currently displayed on the infotainment unit are listed in the same row on the right of
the chart, figure 5, the vehicle already has the software necessary to enable the additional winter
tyre options to be selected. This is performed by coding channel 143 and enabling the necessary
TPMS data set. In this case process 2 only will be required.

Technical product information
The following coding operation should only take place once the correct winter tyre text software has
been confirmed in process 1 and if not present installed via process 3.
1. Coding Channel 143
1. Ensure a suitable battery charger is correctly connected to the vehicles electrical system for the
duration of this procedure
2. Connect the VAS 5052A vehicle diagnostic computer to the vehicle. As an SVM is required the
Bluetooth connection is not recommended
3. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn on the ignition
