Technical background

The Supersports centre console single armrest hinge has been assembled without the application of
lubricant to the bearing surface, this can result in squeaks and or rough action in the hinge.

Remedy
The hinge has to be removed from the centre console armrest and Superlube grease applied to the
hinge pin-bearing surface

vehicles are checked and repaired during a service visit. You should also inform your new and used
car sales departments so that the vehicles affected can be checked and, if necessary, repaired
immediately (and not just before sale)

Technical background
The Supersports centre console single armrest hinge has been assembled without the application of
lubricant to the bearing surface, this can result in squeaks and or rough action in the hinge.

If the vehicle is not already listed as repaired In the "Repair history" (in ElsaPro) , check the vehicle for
the campaign identification mark, (see Figure 10), if this is not visible carry out the required work in
accordance with these instructions

attempt to remove the stowage box armrest assembly until the rear of the console facial panel has
been raised to disengage the stowage box from the peg. The procedure is detailed in the workshop
manual referenced in operation 1 (see Figure 1)

Remove the centre consol armrest from the vehicle. Refer to Workshop manual Rep.Gp.68 Centre console armrest - To remove and fit

Separate the hinge from the armrest. The workshop manual procedure referenced in operation
1 details the method used to separate the hinge from the armrest

Referencing figure 2 check and correct if necessary the depth of the grub screw retaining the
detent spring. This ensures the correct pre load is applied to the detent ball. The pre load is
correct when the top face of the grub screw is 4mm from the top face of the spring tube, adjust
the grub screw up or down to achieve the 4mm measurement. Once this dimension is correct
apply a quantity of paint to the thread (D) to lock the grub screw (see position D Figure 2 and
6)

First separate both lever arms at point A figure 3 and then pull the two lever arms (B) from the
hinge bearing pin (see Figure 4)

Inspect the detent ball running surface for wear remove any burrs using fine abrasive paper
(see Figure 5). Although wear may be evident once lubricated the wear rate will decrease

Thoroughly clean all relevant bearing surfaces before applying any lubricant

Re assemble hinge (see Figure 8). Operate the hinge before assembling into the armrest,
check the assembly is squeak free and the operating action is smooth . If, due to wear in the
detent ball track, excessive force is required to release the hinge from either of the two detent
positions the hinge should be replaced

If a new hinge is fitted ensure it is lubricated to the level detailed in this document before assembling
into the vehicle
1.

Refit the hinge to the centre consol armrest before refitting the assembly to the vehicle. Refer
to Workshop manual Rep.Gp.68 -Centre console armrest - To remove and fit
