LED Headlight Malfunction

SITUATION

1. The LED headlight on one side malfunctions.
2. One headlight flickers on and off while driving (problem is sporadic).
3. The Check Control message indicates the parking light or driving light is defective.
One or more of the following faults can be stored:
◦ 805980 Low-beam headlight defective
◦ 805981 High-beam headlight defective
◦ 8044BB Right-hand LED main light module (LHM2) implausible low-beam headlight function status
◦ 8044BA Left-hand LED main light module (LHM2) implausible low-beam headlight function status
CAUSE

The situation above is caused by a poor connection at the LED headlight connector or LED main light module.
PROCEDURE

1. Perform a vehicle test using ISTA. If communication faults are entered in the Body Domain Controller
(BDC) or the Footwell module (FRM) or/and the LED main light module, work through the communication
faults first.
Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (refer toSI B04 23 10).
2. If one of the faults shown in the situation above is stored, perform the test plan
“ABL_DIT_AT6300_BDC_LED_SCHW” and follow the test plan recommendation to swap over only the
LED main light modules. In order to swap the LHM2 modules, the following work must be performed:
◦ Remove the front bumper per ISTA REP 51 11 156, “Removing and installing front bumper panel."
◦ Remove the headlight assembly per ISTA REP 63 12 140, "Removing and installing (replacing) left
headlight - LED technology."

◦ Remove the LHM2 per ISTA REP 63 11 800, "Replacing left LED main light module left."
3. If the problem is present on the opposite side after swapping the LHM2, the LHM2 must be replaced.
4. If there is no problem and the lights are functioning correctly on both sides after swapping the LHM2,
continue to the next step.

5. After removing the LED main
light module, push down on the
connector.
6. If the connector is pushed down
as shown in the picture, continue
to the next step.

7. Reposition the connector by
lifting it up until the locking tab
is secured. You will hear a
clicking sound when the tab is
locked in place.
8. Remove the other side. Perform
the same procedure.

9. To prevent the connector from
unlocking again, it must be glued
by using an adhesive before the
LED main light module is
refitted. The adhesive should
only used behind the tabs, as
shown.
10. Before you apply the adhesive,
you must clean the area as
described in the instructions for
the adhesive set.
NOTE: Apply the adhesive for both
sides at the same time.

11. The K6 adhesive set (83 19 2
317 925) must be used for this.
12. After drying (10 minutes),
reconnect the LHM on both sides
Recheck that the headlight is
working before fitting it into the
vehicle.
NOTE: This repair kit can be used
for two vehicles.

13. After checking the light operation, reinstall the headlight.
14. Reinstall the front bumper panel.
15. Delete faults.
