PURPOSE
Prolonged exposure to anti−freezing agents used in cold weather areas to clear ice and snow from roadways may potentially corrode the All Wheel Control (AWC) hydraulic unit installed on affected vehicles.
This corrosion may result in AWC hydraulic unit failure and AWC warning lamp illumination.
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. is extending the warranty on the AWC hydraulic unit from failure
due to corrosion as follows:

Affected vehicles in the United States − from 3 years / 36,000 miles to 10 years / 100,000 miles,
whichever comes first.

D

Affected vehicles in Canada − from 3 years / 60,000 kilometers to 10 years / 160,000 kilometers,
whichever comes first.

The warranty coverage is transferable. No PWAs are needed.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
A letter will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles informing them of the warranty extension. A sample
customer notification letter appears at the end of this bulletin.

PROCEDURE
If the AWC warning lamp is illuminated and DTC C161E is recorded, troubleshoot DTC C161E in Group
22A − Manual Transaxle or Group 22C − TC−SST of the applicable service manual, and perform the indicated repair. If the performed repair is AWC hydraulic unit replacement and hydraulic fluid is not leaking
from the piping, submit a warranty claim if the vehicle is within limits of this warranty extension.

Warranty extension to 10yr/100mi (10yr/160km in Canada) for the AWC hydraulic unit applies when
AWC warning lamp is illuminated, DTC C161E is recorded, and hydraulic fluid is not leaking from the
piping. The warranty coverage is transferable. No PWA’s are required.
