S60 Export Injector Harness Replacement

Issue Involved
Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) has determined that some export S60 engines will require
replacement of the injector harness. The injector harness wire insulation may crack,
causing poor engine performance and fault codes. Replacing the injector harness will
prevent performance issues and fault codes that may result in customer dissatisfaction.
There are approximately 273 engines affected by this Field Service Campaign.

Detroit Diesel will notify Export Distributor/Dealers who will notify owners of equipment
incorporating engines identified with this Field Service Campaign. A copy of the owner letter
that can be used for customer contact is enclosed with this Field Service Campaign bulletin.

Distributor / Dealer Campaign Responsibility
Detroit Diesel repair facilities are to service all engines subject to this Field Service
Campaign. Field Service Campaign 14M2 is to be performed at no charge to owners on all
affected engines under the engine warranty or prior to December 18, 2015, under the
provisions of this Field Service Campaign.
Please use the appropriate steps, noted below, for indicating that Field Service Campaign
14M2 has been completed.

Check the base label (Form WAR259) to see if Field Service Campaign 14M2 has
been completed. The base label is usually located on the passenger-side door about 30
cm (12 inches) below the door latch. If Field Service Campaign 14M2 has been
completed, no further work is needed. If base label is not located on the passenger-side
door, please affix label (Form WAR259) 30 cm (12 inches) from the door latch.



Upon completion of Field Service Campaign 14M2, clean a spot on the base label
(Form WAR259), write the Field Service Campaign Number (14M2) on a blank, black
completion sticker (Form WAR261), and attach it to the base label.

Corrective Procedure
1. Apply the parking brake, chock the wheels, and perform any other applicable safety
steps.

PERSONAL INJURY
To avoid injury before performing repair work on the engine,
ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, parking brake is
set, and the wheels are blocked.

PERSONAL INJURY
To avoid injury from hot surfaces, wear protective gloves,
or allow engine to cool before removing any component.

2. Disconnect battery power.
3. Remove the rocker cover cap. Reference section “Removal and Cleaning of the TwoPiece Rocker Cover For Diesel Engines Only” in the EPA07 Series 60 Workshop Manual
(DDC-SVC-MAN-0005).
4. Remove and discard the fuel injector wiring harness. Reference section “Removal of the
Fuel Injector Wiring Harness” in the EPA07 Series 60 Workshop Manual (DDC-SVCMAN-0005).
5. Install the new fuel injector wiring harness by first installing the fuel injector wiring
harness plug into the injector connector using installer tool J-47408, making sure the
locking tang clicks into place.
6. If equipped with Jake Brakes®, connect the two lead wires to each of the Jake Brake®
solenoid valves and the wire harness clips. Torque solenoid screws to 1 N·m (9 lb·in.).

7. Install the two 12-pin electrical connectors through the camshaft housing. Ensure the fuel
injector wiring harness connector is installed into the camshaft housing with the notch
facing upwards. If the connector is installed incorrectly, the mating connector cannot be
installed. See Figure 1.

8. Install the two bolts securing each 12-pin connector to the camshaft housing. Torque the
bolts to 9-12 ft-lbs (12-16 Nm).
9. On the outside of the camshaft housing, install the engine sensor harness 12-pin
connectors to the front and rear fuel injector wiring harness connectors.
10. Install the rocker cover cap. Reference section “Installation of the Two-Piece Rocker
Cover Cap - Diesel Engines Only” in the EPA07 Series 60 Workshop Manual (DDC-SVCMAN-0005).
11. Reconnect battery power, start the engine, and verify repairs.

ELECTRICAL SHOCK
To avoid injury from electrical shock, use care when
connecting battery cables. The magnetic switch studs are at
battery voltage.
12. Repairs are complete.
