Water on Front Compartment Floor and/or Musty Odor

This bulletin has been revised to update the Parts Information. Please discard PI1160A.

Condition/Concern
Important: Ensure the HVAC After-Blow function has been enabled per bulletin 99-01-39-004. Refer to the latest
version of PIC5730 for instructions on vehicles built prior to 1G6AH5RX0D0142531.
Some customers may comment that, after running the air conditioner (A/C), water is noticed on the floor or in
extreme cases a musty odor may be detected in the vehicle. This could be caused by a mis-positioned HVAC drain
assembly in the floor. Some vehicles may also have a secondary drain tube within the drain assembly and this tube
could contribute to the musty odor.

Recommendation/Instructions
Use the following steps to inspect the vehicle for the presence of a secondary drain tube. Replace the drain
assembly if required and apply Coolant Coil Coating to correct the odor concern.
Inspection/Repair Procedure
Use the following steps to determine if the HVAC drain assembly has the secondary drain tube and if the drain tube
assembly needs to be replaced:
1. Remove the left front floor console extension panel at the front of the console. Refer to Front Floor Console
Extension Panel Replacement - Left Side in SI.
2. Remove the left instrument panel lower trim panel insulator (hush panel). Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Trim
Panel Insulator Replacement (Left Side) in SI.

3. Reposition the seal using a flat-bladed tool as necessary. Inspect the drain assembly for the presence of a white
or light blue plastic drain tube.

⇒ If the secondary tube is present, replace the drain hose assembly with the revised part listed below. Refer to
Air Conditioning Evaporator and Blower Module Drain Hose Replacement in SI. See the Cooling Coil Coating
steps below before replacing the drain tube assembly.
Important: Remove the secondary white (or blue) drain tube. It is not required with the revised drain tube
assembly.
⇒ If no secondary tube is found, proceed to step 4.

4. Reposition the seal assembly in the vehicle. Ensure the bellows section is positioned with no wrinkles or kinks,
ensuring a complete seal to the blower case.
5. Reinstall the left instrument panel lower trim panel insulator (hush panel). Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Trim
Panel Insulator Replacement - Left Side in SI.
6. Reinstall the left front floor console extension panel at the front of the console. Refer to Front Floor Console
Extension Panel Replacement - Left Side in SI.
Cooling Coil Coating
After the drain tube procedures are completed, it is necessary to apply A/C cooling coil coating to the evaporator
core to eliminate any odor issues. Refer to the latest version of Bulletin 99-01-39-004 for instructions.
