REPAIR PROCEDURE
Do
NOT remove any aftertreatment components for cleaning or inspection without first acquiring data. This is very important! Save that data so it can be reviewed by
NOT proactively bake the DPF or DOC and do NOTremove the AFI for cleaning proactively. These practices do not fix the
Tech Service if needed. Do

To properly diagnose a frequent regen issue:
1. The warranty and case file history needs to be reviewed looking for past exhaust contamination or engine performance issues.
2. Open a case file and attach a health report, AMT, engine parameter file, an OBFCT, and top 3 gear lug down performance snapshot for review of current regen and
engine performance.
3. Inspect for any intake or exhaust leaks
4. Inspect all fuel lines to and from DSI and to the AFI for any rubbing that could be causing a lack of fuel to get to the AFI.
NOTE: DOC and DPF replacement requires an iApprove.
At this time Navistar does not recognize the FSX pin drop or flow test procedure and specifications for
diagnosing a bad DPF/DOC. Navistar currently recognizes the machine for cleaning purposes only and use the
vehicle's on board diagnostics/snapshots for diagnosing after treatment components.
Example of an Inefficient OBFCT
Suspect failed DOC. Notice the DOC outlet temp is lower than DPF outlet temp. This means the DOC is not burning the soot load effectively and the DPF is doing more of
the burn than it should.
There is an acceptable temp inversion of 50°C/122°F due to soot loaded DPF's burning hotter than clean/new DPF's. Also vehicles that idle a lot or run with a lighter load
can store unburnt fuel in the DPF that will make it regen hotter than normal. DPF outlet being hotter than the DOC outlet should only be diagnosed if the DPF outlet is hotter
than the DOC outlet by more than 50°C/122°F.
