This diagnostic is typically Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) Inlet NOx Sensor - Drift (Low Box).
This fault code may be set by an inlet NOx sensor drifted out of range with the engine at a low speed, low load (low box)
situation.

Typical Enabling Conditions

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) mass flow greater than .08 kg/s,
engine speed is between 1450-1900 RPM, engine torque is between
1400-2100 N·m (1033 to 1549 lb·ft), battery voltage greater than 11
vDC, coolant temperature greater than 65°C (149°F), ambient
temperature greater than -8°C (17.6°F) ambient, barometric pressure
greater than 755 mbar, engine is not in regeneration mode.

Verification

Warm up engine such that coolant temperature greater than 65°C
(149°F), ensure engine is not in regeneration mode, insure ambient
temperature is greater than -8°C (17.6°F), barometric pressure
greater than 755 mbar.

1. Are EGR system faults also present?
a. Yes; repair the EGR system faults first.
b. No; Go to step 2.
2. Visually inspect the entire air inlet, Charge Air Cooler (CAC), and EGR piping and hose for visible signs of leaks or
damage. Are there any leaks or damage present?
a. Yes; repair as necessary. Retest with verification cycle; once engine is at standard operating temperature, drive at
highway speed with loaded trailer above 1130 rpm continuously for five minutes.
b. No; Go to step 3.
3. Perform an idle speed balance (ISB) test. Refer to section "Checking the Idle Speed Balance". Is there any injector
concern found?
a. Yes; repair as necessary. Retest with verification cycle; once engine is at standard operating temperature, drive at
highway speed with loaded trailer above 1130 rpm continuously for five minutes.
b. No; Go to step 4.
4. Check the Aftertreatment System (ATS) for visible exhaust leaks or damage. Are there any leaks or damage present?
a. Yes; repair as necessary. Retest with verification cycle; once engine is at standard operating temperature, drive at
highway speed with loaded trailer above 1130 rpm continuously for five minutes.
b. No; Go to step 5.
5. Connect DDDL/DDRS 7.11 or newer.
6. Disconnect the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) metering unit dosing valve.
NOTE: Disregard any fault codes which set with the DEF metering unit dosing valve unplugged.

WARNING: HOT EXHAUST
During parked regeneration the exhaust gases will be extremely HOT and could cause a fire if
directed at combustible materials. The vehicle must be parked outside.

WARNING: ENGINE EXHAUST
To avoid injury from inhaling engine exhaust, always operate the engine in a well-ventilated area.
Engine exhaust is toxic.

WARNING: PERSONAL INJURY
To avoid injury before starting and running the engine, ensure the vehicle is parked on a level
surface, parking brake is set, and the wheels are blocked.
NOTE: NOx Inlet normal reading should be 0 to15 percent higher than the NOx Outlet reading.
7. Start engine and perform a “Perform Performance Check - Low Temp ATD”. After thirty minutes, are the NOx sensor
values equal (within 15 percent)?
a. Yes; Go to step 8.
b. No; replace the Inlet NOx sensor. Retest with verification cycle; once engine is at standard operating temperature,
drive at highway speed with loaded trailer above 1130 rpm continuously for five minutes.
8. Turn the ignition OFF.
9. Disconnect the ACM 120-pin connector.
10. Inspect the ACM 120-pin connector and the 120-pin harness connector for signs of corrosion, spread, unseated (pushed
out) or damaged pins, connector seal for damage (signs of water or oil intrusion) or signs of wire damage. Is there any
damage found?
a. Yes; repair as necessary.
b. No; Go to step 11.
11. Install a test ACM and retest with verification cycle; once engine is at standard operating temperature, drive at highway
speed with loaded trailer above 1130 rpm continuously for five minutes.
12. If code does not return, replace ACM. Refer to section "Description and Operation of the Aftertreatment Control
Module". Verify repairs. Retest with verification cycle; once engine is at standard operating temperature, drive at
highway speed with loaded trailer above 1130 rpm continuously for five minutes.
