LLC Pipe Replacement

Certain 2013 and 2014 Model Year 195 and 195h model vehicles.

IMPORTANT:
Verify the vehicle requires the work to be performed by referencing the vehicle by VIN within the Hino
Warranty System (DCS).

CONDITION:
The LLC (Long Life Coolant) pipes may corrode due to road salt and splash. The corrosion may create
a hole in the pipe, resulting in an LLC leak, and possible engine overheat. This service campaign directs
you to replace these LLC pipes with an enhanced pipe made of stainless steel.

SUBJECT VEHICLES:
Certain 2013 and 2014 Model Year 195 and 195h model vehicles that were assembled at the Hamura Japan
plant.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
Read and understand all instructions and procedures before you begin. Read and observe all Notes, Cautions
and Warning alerts that precede these instructions while following the procedures. The alerts help to avoid
damage to components, serious personal injury, or both.

Park the vehicle on a level and solid surface

Place the gear shift lever in "Neutral" or "Park".

-

Apply the parking brake.

-

Confirm the engine is stopped, the starter switch is in the off (LOCK) position, and the key is
removed.

Wear safety glasses to prevent eye injuries.

-

Place wheel chocks in front of and behind all wheels.

VEHICLE PREPERATION:
1. Park the vehicle on level ground. Confirm the
engine is stopped, the starter switch is in the “OFF”
(LOCK) position and the key is removed.

2 Apply the parking brakes.

3. Chock the wheels.

WARNING:
Contact with hot engine coolant can result in burns or serious injuries. To avoid serious burn injuries, make
certain that the engine is at ambient temperature and the cooling system is not pressurized before
proceeding with this work procedure.

REMOVAL INSTRUCTION:
1. Locate the inner and outer steel SCR coolant pipes on the passenger side frame rail.

2. Place a drain pan under the SCR coolant
pipes

WARNING:
To avoid serious burns or injury, never remove any hoses or clamps in the cooling system unless you are
certain that the engine is at ambient temperature and the cooling system is not pressurized.

3. For ease of access, remove the inner coolant pipe first. Release the three (3) inner SCR coolant pipe
hose clamps and disconnect the three (3) coolant hoses from the inner SCR coolant pipe.

4. Remove the nut that secures the inner SCR
coolant pipe. Remove the inner SCR coolant
pipe and discard the nut and pipe.

WARNING:
To avoid serious burns or injury, never remove any hoses or clamps in the cooling system unless you are
certain that the engine is at ambient temperature and the cooling system is not pressurized.
5. Release the three (3) outer SCR coolant pipe hose clamps and disconnect the three (3) coolant hoses
from the outer SCR coolant pipe. Discard the hose clamps

6. Remove the nut that secures the outer SCR
coolant pipe. Remove the outer SCR coolant
pipe and discard the nut and pipe.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Install the outer coolant pipe first. Using a
new SCR coolant pipe and new nut, secure
the pipe in the outer position and torque
the nut to the specified torque
Specified Torque: 22.8 lb‐ft (31.0 Nm)
2. Using three (3) new hose clamps, install the hose clamps onto their corresponding coolant hose. Install
the hoses and then position the hose clamps into their original position prior to disassembly. Engage the
clamps.
NOTICE:
There are two (2) different size hose clamps provided. Care should be taken to ensure the black color
clamps (21576‐E0190) are used on the two (2) larger diameter coolant hoses and the silver color clamp
(21576‐E0200) is used on the one (1) smaller diameter coolant hose.

3. The inner coolant pipe will now be installed.
Using a new SCR coolant pipe and new nut,
secure the pipe in the inner position and
torque the nut to the specified torque.
Specified Torque: 22.8 lb‐ft (31.0 Nm)

4. Using three (3) new hose clamps, install the hose clamps onto their corresponding coolant hose. Install
the hoses and then position the hose clamps into their original position prior to disassembly. Engage the
clamps.
NOTICE:
There are two (2) different size hose clamps provided. Care should be taken to ensure the black color
clamps (21576‐E0190) are used on the two (2) larger diameter coolant hoses and the silver color clamp
(21576‐E0200) is used on the 1 smaller diameter coolant hose.

5. Using the ignition key, start the engine for 30 seconds and then turn the ignition key to the lock position
to shut the engine off. Confirm the engine is stopped, the ignition switch is in the off (LOCK) position,
and the key is removed.

6. Release the cab lock and raise the cab.

7. Remove the radiator cap and add Hino LLC
(Long Life Coolant) until the radiator is full.
Install the radiator cap.

WARNING:
To avoid serious burn injuries, make certain the
engine coolant is at ambient temperature and the
cooling system is not under pressure before
removing radiator cap.

8. Lower the cab and engage the cab lock.

9. Open the driver’s door. Ensure the coolant
reservoir behind the drivers cab step is full of
coolant. Top off with Hino LLC as needed.

10. Start the engine using the ignition key and allow the engine to reach operating temperature.

11. Turn the ignition key to the lock position to shut
the engine off. Confirm the engine is stopped,
the ignition switch is in the off (LOCK) position,
and the key is removed.

12. Inspect the six (6) coolant hose connections to
make certain they are not leaking while the
cooling system is under pressure.

13. This repair procedure is complete. Perform the final inspection procedure before releasing the vehicle
to the customer.

FINAL INSPECTION PROCEDURE:

1. To complete this service campaign, review the bulletin and confirm the following:
 There are no leaks at the 6 coolant hose connections indicated in this service bulletin.
 The cooling system is full, including the reservoir tank.
 The nut securing each of the SCR coolant pipes is torqued to the specified torque.
 Cab is securely latched and locked in the lowered position.
