EPA07/10 DD Engine EGR Delta Pressure Sensor Replacement

Defect Involved
Detroit Diesel has determined that some certified EPA07 and EPA10 DD engines
will require EGR Delta Pressure Sensor replacement. Replacement of the sensor
may prevent failures that may result in customer dissatisfaction.
The EGR Delta Pressure Sensor being REMOVED in this campaign is P/N:
A0061537928.

NOTICE:
Some engines may have already been upgraded to the new sensor during a
previous repair. Please be sure the sensor being removed is P/N: A0061537928.
Check the Detroit Diesel Warranty System to verify that Field Service Campaign
13M2 is still active for the engine.
The new sensor became effective with DD15 engine s/n 472903S0103639 and
DD13 engine s/n 471903S0103500, both built on November 2, 2011. Please note
that we do not build sequentially.
There are approximately 79,850 engines involved in this campaign.

Owner Notification
Detroit Diesel will notify owners of equipment incorporating engines identified
with this field service campaign. A copy of the owner letter that will be used by
Detroit Diesel is enclosed with this field service campaign notice.

Distributor / Dealer Campaign Responsibility
Detroit Diesel Repair Facilities are to service all engines subject to this field
service campaign. Field Service Campaign 13M2 is to be performed at no charge
to owners on all affected engines under the engine warranty or prior to
September 23, 2014, under the provisions of this field service campaign.

Please use the appropriate steps, noted below, for indicating that Field Service
Campaign 13M2 has been completed.
Freightliner, Sterling, and Western Star Trucks


Check the base label (Form WAR259) to see if Field Service Campaign
13M2 has been completed. The base label is usually located on the
passenger-side door about 30 cm (12 inches) below the door latch. If Field
Service Campaign 13M2 has been completed, no further work is needed. If
base label is not located on the passenger-side door, please affix label (Form
WAR259) 30 cm (12 inches) from the door latch.



Upon completion of Field Service Campaign 13M2, clean a spot on the base
label (Form WAR259), write the Field Service Campaign Number (13M2) on
a blank, black completion sticker (Form WAR261), and attach it to the base
label.

Parts Information
The sensor and other necessary parts to replace it are in service kit P/N:
A0001502525. This kit allows the EGR venturi pipe to be reused. Do not remove the
EGR venturi pipe from the engine.

Corrective Procedure
1. Shut off engine and apply the parking brake, chock the wheels, disconnect
vehicle battery power, and perform any other applicable safety steps.

NOTICE:
Make sure the part number of the sensor being removed is P/N: A0061537928.
Do NOT remove sensor P/N: A4701530028.
2. Check the part number of the sensor currently installed on the engine.
Reference Figure 1.
a. If the part number is A4701530028, then no further work is needed,
update the door sticker to indicate that 13M2 is complete.
b. If the part number is A0061537928, then continue with sensor
replacement.

3. Replace the sensor with the new one in the service kit. Reference 18SP705
found in the kit.

4. Step 6 in 18SP705 states to clean the EGR venturi pipe ports to ensure they
are not plugged. If the ports cannot be unplugged, the EGR venturi pipe can
be replaced by using existing service kits P/N: A0091537828 (DD15/16) or
P/N: A0091537728 (DD13).

NOTICE:
Note that we expect to see less than 1% of engines that will have severely
plugged EGR venturi pipe ports. Excess sales of the venturi pipe service kits will
be flagged for investigation.
5. Start the engine and verify the repairs.
