CRITICAL WARNING - THIS CAMPAIGN INCLUDES STEPS WHERE SEVERAL CONTROL UNITS IN
THE VEHICLE WILL BE PROGRAMMED WITH THE PIWIS TESTER. IT IS CRITICAL THAT THE VEHICLE
VOLTAGE BE BETWEEN 13.5 VOLTS AND 14.5 VOLTS DURING THIS PROGRAMMING. OTHERWISE, THE
PROGRAMMING COULD FAIL RESULTING IN DAMAGED CONTROL UNITS. CONTROL UNITS DAMAGED BY
INADEQUATE VOLTAGE WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE TECHNICIAN MUST VERIFY THE
ACTUAL VEHICLE VOLTAGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OR IN THE PIWIS TESTER BEFORE STARTING
THE CAMPAIGN AND ALSO DOCUMENT THE ACTUAL VOLTAGE ON THE REPAIR ORDER. IT IS ALSO
ADVISABLE TO MONITOR THE VEHICLE VOLTAGE DURING THE PROGRAMMING VIA THE INSTRUMENT
CLUSTER. PLEASE REFER TO EQUIPMENT INFORMATION EQ-1105 FOR A LIST OF SUITABLE BATTERY
CHARGERS/POWER SUPPLIES WHICH SHOULD BE USED TO MAINTAIN VEHICLE VOLTAGE.

This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Campaign on the above-mentioned vehicles.

Minimal clutch slip can occur on the decoupler for the hybrid
system in certain driving
conditions on new vehicles with a low mileage as a result of corrosion protection residues.
As a result, the error message "Hybrid
system failure - Park vehicle safely" can appear in the
instrument cluster. The vehicle is ready to drive again after switching the ignition off and on again,
but the fault can occur again up to and including the tenth time the combustion engine is engaged.
•
The history-based electric energy requirements, among other things, are taken into
account when calculating the vehicle's electric range. Depending on the driving profile while
transporting the vehicle (e.g. high electric energy requirements when manoeuvring the vehicle), the
customer may find that a low electric range is displayed initially following vehicle delivery.
•
Measure 1: Carry out run-in procedure for the decoupler for the hybrid
system before vehicle
delivery to the customer (e.g. during the test drive for the sales check).
•
Measure 2: Re-program the high-voltage battery
control unit during the sales check before handing
the vehicle over to the customer. This will initialise the history memory for calculating the electric
range.

Information
Depending on the production date of the vehicle, either both measures are required (Scope 1) or it is
only necessary to re-program the high-voltage battery
control unit (Scope 2). The campaign
scope to be carried out is assigned to the vehicle as a fixed scope.
On vehicles on which both measures are required, first carry out the run-in procedure for the
decoupler for the hybrid
system and then re-program the high-voltage battery
control unit.
Affected
Vehicles:
Only vehicles assigned to the campaign, if these vehicles are delivered to customers in the period from
January to February 2014.
There are currently 336 vehicles affected by this campaign. However, vehicles potentially affected will
be assigned to the campaign on an on-going basis. (For information on campaign assignment for the
vehicle, see also PIWIS Vehicle information).

Vehicle handover already carried out using the PIWIS Tester (Transport mode deactivated).
•
Engine oil temperature higher than 68° F (20° C). The engine oil temperature can be read from
the "Oil temperature" display in the "Vehicle" main menu in the multi-function display (the content of
this display may have to be selected first and assigned to a display).
•
State of charge of the high-voltage battery
greater than 20%. The state of charge of the
high-voltage battery
can be read from the Battery state of charge display in the instrument panel.
•
Vehicle is operated in hybrid
mode (E-Power mode and E-Charge mode are deactivated).
NOTE: VEHICLE VOLTAGE MUST REMAIN BETWEEN 13.5 AND 14.5 VOLTS DURING THE ENTIRE WORK

Carry out run-in procedure.

When the preconditions are met, select the "E-Power
Assist" menu in the multi-function display in the
instrument cluster so that the segment display
E-Power Assist menu -A- for the accelerator pedal
travel and the threshold value for engagement of the
combustion engine E-Power Assist menu -B- are
displayed.

Test drive with specific driving profile
•
Danger to other people on the roads
Only drive the vehicle to achieve the speed ranges specified in the document in accordance with road
traffic regulations and if the road, weather and traffic conditions are conducive to such driving.

Press lightly on the accelerator pedal to accelerate the vehicle electrically to a speed of approx.
25 mph (40 km/h). Check the segment display E-Power Assist menu -A- to make sure that the
combustion engine is not started.

Once the vehicle is travelling at a constant speed of approx. 25 mph (40 km/h), gently press the
accelerator pedal down further until the threshold value for engagement of the combustion engine
E-Power Assist menu -B- is reached and the combustion engine is started.

Once the combustion engine has started, continue driving with the same accelerator pedal position
for approx. 3 seconds so that the combustion engine stays on.

Release the accelerator pedal to switch to overrun mode and to disengage and switch off the
combustion engine.

Then repeat Steps 3 to 5 (restart and then disengage and switch off the combustion engine) as often
as required until you have restarted the combustion engine at least 10 times.

Measure 2: Re-programming high-voltage battery
control unit
NOTICE
Programming will be aborted in the event of low voltage.
•
Increased current draw during diagnosis can cause a drop in voltage, which can result in one or more fault
entries and the abnormal termination of the programming process.
Before commencing work, connect a suitable battery charger or power supply, suitable for AGM type
batteries, recommended current rating of 70A fixed voltage 13.5V to 14.5V to the jump-start terminals in
the engine compartment.
NOTICE
Programming will be aborted if the WLAN connection is unstable.
•
An unstable WLAN connection can interrupt communication between PIWIS Tester II and the vehicle
communication module (VCI). As a result, programming may be aborted.
During control unit programming, always connect PIWIS Tester II to the vehicle communication module
(VCI) via the USB cable.
NOTICE
Control unit programming will be aborted if the vehicle key is not recognised
•
If the vehicle key is not recognised in vehicles with Porsche
Entry & Drive, programming cannot be started
or will be interrupted.
Switch on the ignition using the original driver’s key. To do this, replace the control panel in the ignition
lock with the original driver’s key if necessary.
Information
It takes about 6 minutes to program the high-voltage battery
control unit.
Once programming is complete, a control unit run-on phase of at least 6 minutes with the ignition
switched off is required so that on-board diagnosis of the high-voltage system can be performed. The
vehicle cannot be started until on-board diagnosis is completed successfully.

Connect a battery charger or power supply, suitable for AGM type batteries, recommended current
rating of 70A fixed voltage 13.5V to 14.5V to the jump-start terminals in the engine compartment.

Switch on the ignition using the original driver's key. On vehicles with “Porsche
Entry & Drive”, do
this by replacing the control panel in the ignition lock with the original driver's key if necessary.

9818 - PIWIS Tester II with software version 13.100 (or higher) installed must be connected to
the vehicle communication module (VCI) via the USB cable. Then, connect the communication
module to the vehicle and switch on the PIWIS Tester.

Information
The procedure described here is based on the PIWIS Tester II software version 13.100.
The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy, these are the
instructions that must be followed.
A discrepancy may arise with later software versions for example.
Information
During programming, the windscreen wipers can come on for one wipe cycle.
Do not work in this area during programming.

In the control unit selection screen ( 'Overview'
menu), press •F7“ to call up the 'Additional
menu' ( Control unit selection).

When the question “Create Vehicle Analysis Log
(VAL)?” appears, either press •F12“ to create a VAL
or press •F11“ if you do not want to create a VAL.

Press •>>“ to acknowledge the message informing
you that campaigns for the vehicle are stored in the
PIWIS information system.

Select the 'Campaign' function and press •>>“ to confirm your selection Additional menu –
Campaign.
You are then prompted to enter a programming code.

Information
Read and follow the information and instructions on the PIWIS Tester during the guided
programming sequence.
The high-voltage battery
control unit is re-programmed using a new data record with the Porsche
part
number 7PP91502299 (programming takes approx. 6 minutes).
Do not interrupt programming.
Once control unit programming is complete, the Porsche
part number that can be read out in the
"Extended identification" menu using the PIWIS Tester does not change to the new Porsche
part number
7PP91502299, but the old Porsche
part number will still be displayed.
Only the software version specified in the “Extended identification” menu is decisive for checking
whether the control unit software is up-to-date. The designation of the software version of the new data
record is 0623.
Information
If an error message is displayed (e.g. “Campaign does not exist”, “No suitable programming rules found”
or “Vehicle data could not be read”, etc.), please read and follow the appropriate instructions provided
under Technical Information 'Troubleshooting' at the end of this Technical Information.
If programming is interrupted (e.g. due to a voltage drop or if communication is aborted, etc.) or if
programming could not be carried out successfully (error message “Programming unsuccessful”),
programming must be repeated by entering the programming code A3B6T again (Additional menu >
Campaign >> Enter campaign number).
It is not possible to program the control units manually.
