Information

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) SPN 4094 FMI 18 and SPN 5246 FMI 0 can log in certain

chassis applications that load the engine during idle conditions on LEU and MRU (MP7

EPA2010) trucks built between 01/01/2010 and 12/16/2012. Typical applications include but

are not limited to chassis with Automated Side Loader (ASL) and Automated Front Loader

(AFL) type bodies. If SPN 4094 FMI 18, SPN 5246 FMI 0 DTCs and NO other faults are

present under the conditions described in this bulletin, the DTCs may be corrected by

updating the MID 128 Software.

Procedure

You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information,

group 2, “General Safety Practices, Engine” before performing this procedure. If you are

not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training before

you perform it.
DANGER

Do not attempt to repair or service this vehicle without having sufficient training, the correct

service literature and the proper tools. Failure to follow this could make the vehicle unsafe

and lead to serious personal injury or death.

1 Connect Premium Tech Tool (PTT) to the vehicle diagnostic connector using the 9 pin

diagnostic communications cable 88890154 or 88890034 and communications adapter

88890020 or 88890180. Connect the PC to a functional LAN network connection and a

reliable power source (the Intermediate Storage function may be used for the

programming part of this procedure if necessary).

2 Turn the ignition switch “ON”.

3 Log in to PTT and proceed to the Identification of Vehicle/Machine panel.

4 Once the vehicle has been identified and selected, start VCADS Pro.

5 Enter the job card information.

6 From the VCADS Pro Operations Menu select:

a. 1 – Service and Maintenance

b. 1700-21-03-02 – Fault Codes

7 Record all fault codes logged.

8 From the VCADS Pro Operations Menu select:

a. 1 – Service and Maintenance

b. 1700-08-03-03 –Vehicle Information test

Note: If Dataset 2 is equal to or greater than 22089367, continue with Guided Diagnostic

(GD) fault tracing.

Note: If Dataset 2 is less than 22089367, Reprogram MID 128 and release the chassis if

no other engine fault codes are logged. If other fault codes are logged, diagnose these

codes using GD, correct the cause(s), reprogram the MID 128, and release the chassis.

Note: If codes are logged other than the ones described in this bulletin, do not clear them

or reprogram MID 128 until the codes are diagnosed using GD

9 From the VCADS Pro Operations Menu select:

a. 2 - Engine, Engine Mounting and Equipment

b. 2841-22-03-03–MID 128 ECU, programing

c. Reprogram control unit with complete software package.

Note: If you lose power or your LAN/modem connection during programming you will

need to start programming over from the beginning.

10 After programming is complete clear all fault codes, shutdown Premium Tech Tool and

disconnect communications interface from vehicle.
Reimbursement

This repair may be eligible for reimbursement if a product failure was experienced

within time and mileage limits of the applicable Warranty coverage. Reimbursement

is obtained via the normal claim handling process.
