On some Volvo trucks built between January 2010 and May 2010, the front chassis to chassis
extension harness connector may not seal properly. This may lead to corrosion which can
cause ABS faults. New service jumpers have been released, and should be used to replace
the existing connector if corrosion occurs.
If a corrosion issue should occur, follow the repair procedure below.

Repair Procedure
N o t e : Information is subject to change without notice.

accurately as possible.

You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information,
group 30, "General Safety Practices, Electrical and Electronics" before performing this
procedure. If you are not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your
supervisor for training before you perform it.
1 Secure the vehicle for service by parking it on a flat level surface, applying the parking
brake, chocking the rear wheel, and placing the transmission in neutral.
2 Disconnect all cables from the negative (ground) battery terminals to prevent personal
injury from electrical shock and prevent damage to electrical components.

3 Locate the black 14 pin connector within the frame near the air dryer as shown. There will
also be a grey connector near the same area. Do not cut or splice the grey connector.

N o t e : Frame location may vary depending on cab type.
4 Loosen the harness section in front of and behind the connector, by cutting all necessary
cable ties.
5 Lay the new harnesses in place over top of the old sections to be removed. Mark the
sections to be cut just above the butt splice located from the end of the new harnesses.
This will allow some extra length of wire to work with. Cut and remove old sections of
harnesses.
N o t e : Make sure you do not cut more than is required or the new harnesses will be too
short to make the connection.
N o t e : Make a notation of wire locations for future reference.

6 Strip each wire evenly. Strip length = approximately 8mm (0.314 inch).

7 Crimp the splice leads to the chassis wires referring to your notation that was made before
the old connectors were cut off.

8 Using a heat gun, shrink the wire splices until glue appears from the end of the splice.
N o t e : Some vehicles will not use all of the wires. Cut the butt splice from the unused wires
and heat shrink the wires to seal them from the elements.
N o t e : Make certain the factory crimped ends of the splice are also shrunk properly.

9 Once all splice leads are properly shrunk, tape the exposed bundle to protect it.

10 Secure the harness back into proper position using cable ties as needed.
11 Make certain the new connectors are connected all the way and the secondary locks is
secured.
12 Install all the previously removed cables to the negative (ground) battery terminals.

13 Start the engine, check for proper vehicle operation.
Using Tech Tool, check and clear all codes.
