Title: Boost Leak at the Intake Throttle Valve Housing
Applies To: MaxxForce® 11 & 13 (All Model Years, All Applications)
DESCRIPTION
Boost leaks at the intake throttle to cylinder head joint have been observed in the field, particularly on CAT SS vehicles.
The current seal between the intake throttle duct and cylinder head is RTV: that is, Wacker 442, Loctite® 5900 Sealant, or equivalent. Research
has shown that it is not a robust design.
RESOLUTION
Navistar has released an intake throttle valve gasket (P/N: 3013488C1) to replace the RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanization) application.
In either of the following circumstances,
Whenever there is an exhaust leak, or
Whenever the intake throttle valve is removed from the engine to be serviced for any other reasons,
Use a scraper to remove the RTV application at the intake throttle (if not done already), and install the intake throttle valve gasket (P/N:
3013488C1).
The following pictures show the joining surfaces at the intake throttle and the cylinder head, with the RTV still to be removed.
