Front Door Exterior Handle Sticking in the Open Position

CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: After opening either front door with the exterior handle, the following may occur:
• the exterior door handle may 'stick' in the open position;
• the door may not latch, and;
• with the ignition 'ON', the 'door open' warning will be activated.

Cause: This may be caused by the handle binding between the body panel and the lock barrel.
Action: Should a customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below.

NOTE: Normal Warranty policies and procedures apply.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION:
1. Remove the affected front exterior door handle(s) [refer to TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 501-14].

2.

CAUTION: Remove only the burr and
split line; DO NOT remove any material from
the radius.

CAUTION: Do not remove any material
from the right-hand exterior door handle
bezel.
Left-hand only: place the door lock cylinder with
the key slot face down and file the moulding split
line to remove the burr from the radius.

NOTE: Using a suitable degreaser, clean
the handle before and after removing the
moulding split line.

NOTE: Remove only the moulding split
line; DO NOT remove any material from the
door handle strap.
Left-hand and right-hand: using suitable 800grit abrasive cloth, remove the moulding split line
from the center of the door handle strap.

NOTE: Do not use excessive lubricant.
Left-hand and right-hand: lubricate the handle
strap face surface and side surfaces using a KSP
105 from the oil and grease kit.

NOTE: Using a suitable degreaser, clean
the handle before and after removing the
burr/flash.

NOTE: Do not use excessive lubricant.
Left-hand and right-hand: using suitable 800grit abrasive cloth, remove the burr/flash from
both rear edges of the strap until smooth (arrowed
in graphic).
Lubricate the rear face and sides using KSP

105 from the oil and grease kit.

6.

NOTE: Do not remove the retaining
screw completely.
Loosen the retaining screw and slide the handle
securing plate rearwards, ensuring the location
lugs are tight against the door panel aperture.
Tighten the retaining screw.

7. Install the exterior front door handle(s) [refer to TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 501-14].
