Park the vehicle on a level surface. Block the wheels to
prevent the vehicle from moving. Support the vehicle with
safety stands. Do not work under a vehicle supported only by
jacks. Jacks can slip and fall over. Serious personal injury and
damage to components can result.

This technical bulletin provides instructions for replacing the caliper
mounting bolts on certain Shuttlewagon Railcar Mover models
equipped with Meritor MOR/MOX series heavy-duty planetary
wheel-end drive axles. Refer to Figure 1 for an illustration of caliper
parts.
Parts Required
The required replacement fasteners and sealants will be sent to your
repair facility through the OEM. The following parts are required for
this fastener replacement program.

Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake line.
Damage to components will result.

Loosen the top caliper mounting bolt to enable the caliper to
pivot on the bolt. Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from
the brake line. Figure 2.

Procedures
Remove the Tire and Wheel Assembly
1.

Wear safe eye protection. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
Block the wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving. Set the
parking brake.
2.
Raise the axle until both the wheel ends are off the ground.
Support the vehicle with safety stands.
3.
Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to the OEM
instructions for correct procedures.

Pivot the caliper out of the way to expose the bottom mount
pad for cleaning.
4.
Tighten the top caliper bolt to hold the caliper in place as it is
rotated to expose the lower mounting surface.
5.
Use an abrasive pad to remove all paint from both sides of the
caliper mount pad. Figure 3.

Pivot the Caliper Assembly and Clean the
Caliper Mount Pads
1.
Remove three of the four brake caliper mounting bolts, leaving
the top caliper mounting bolt in the caliper. If threadlocker was
applied previously, you may need to apply heat before the bolts
can be removed.

Use an abrasive pad to remove all paint from the caliper mount
surface on the knuckle or axle housing. Figure 4.

Tighten the mounting bolts to 50 lb-ft (68 N폷m) plus 60
degrees of additional rotation. @
Install the Tire and Wheel Assembly

1.
Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to the OEM
instructions for correct procedures.
2.
Remove the safety stands and lower the axle until both the
wheel ends are on the ground.
3.
Return the vehicle to service.

Loosen the top caliper bolt and rotate the caliper back into
original position.
8.
Reinstall the bottom bolt and leave it loose.
9.
Remove the top bolt.
10. Pivot the caliper out of the way to expose the top mount pad for
cleaning.
11. Tighten the bottom caliper bolt to hold the caliper in place as it
is rotated to expose the top mounting surface.
12. Use an abrasive pad to remove all paint from both sides of the
top caliper mount pad.
13. Use an abrasive pad to remove all paint from the top caliper
mount surface on the knuckle or axle housing.
Install the Brake Caliper Mounting Bolts
1.
Loosen the bottom caliper bolt and rotate the caliper back into
original position. Line up all four bolt holes on the caliper to the
mounting pads.
2.
Clean any previously applied thread-locking compound from
the bolt threads and the mounting hole threads.
3.
Apply the supplied threadlocker to the four new caliper
mounting bolt threads.
WARNING
On steer axles, you must install the longer bolts in the upper
mounting holes and the shorter bolts in the lower mounting
holes. Do not install the bolts in the wrong positions. Serious
personal injury and damage to components can result.
4.
Install washers on the caliper mounting bolts. Install the four
caliper mounting bolts into the caliper. On steering axles, install
the two longer caliper mounting bolts into the upper holes and
the two shorter caliper mounting bolts into the lower holes.
