PURPOSE:
Vehicles that have the MIL illuminated with the following DTC set:
– U019B - Lost Communication with Battery Charger Control Module
Vehicles with Baseline 615 or earlier software have the potential to falsely set DTC U019B – Lost Communication with Battery Charger Control Module when the vehicle is transitioned into Off_Awake or ACC with
the EVSE charging plug connected to the vehicle.
A new software update for the Battery Energy Control Module (0156-00-20) has been released to improve
the robustness of the BECMs diagnostic capability, resolving U019B from falsely setting under these conditions.

Module
1. Preparing Vehicle for ECU Flash Reprogramming
1.1. Verify the vehicle’s 12 volt battery is at or above 12.2 volts before proceeding.
● If the voltage is below specification, connect a battery charger using the B+ positive post at
the Power Distribution Center (PDC) with Fisker special tool FST9001 – Battery Charging Terminal Adaptor. Connect the – Negative lead to the Accessory Power Module (APM) ground
terminal.
NOTE: Battery voltage must be maintained between 12.2 and 16 volts while flashing an ECU.
1.2. Before ECU flash reprogramming can be started; the vehicle must be put in ACC – Accessory mode unless otherwise stated.
● With the vehicle completely off, press the Start/Stop Button (SSB) once. The SSB backlighting will turn amber and the DIS will display “ACC”.
1.3. When an ECU is being reprogrammed; the vehicle must be prevented from going into Sleep
mode. This can be accomplished simply by turning on the Hazard Warning Lights.
● Once the flash has started, do not disturb the vehicle by opening/closing doors, turning on
unnecessary accessories or lights.
NOTE: If the vehicle goes into sleep mode while an ECU is being reprogrammed; the reprogramming
may be unsuccessful and can potentially damage the ECU.
2. Connecting to the Vehicle and Updating the Diagnostic Data Package
2.1. Connect the WDI to the OBD2 Port located underneath the dash to the left of the steering
wheel. Then connect the WDI to the Fisker Laptop via the provided USB cable.
2.2. Open the Fisker Workshop Tester and click on Add New Diagnostic Package in the main
menu.
2.3. In the next screen, click on the ODX Update to download the latest baseline software.
2.4. Next click Download Descriptors to view new Release Packages available.
2.5. Under the Selected Diagnostic Package menu on the left, look for the latest package available. Click once to highlight it and then click the Download button.
2.6. After the download has finished, click and highlight the latest release package again and then
click the Install button. The release package will now be installed to the Fisker Workshop Tester.

3. VIN Entry
It is important to enter the correct VIN number (with all letters capitalized) into the Vehicle
Identification menu. This will allow the vehicle’s As Built information to be downloaded to
the scan tool.
3.1. Enter the VIN number for the vehicle manually by entering it in the text box or use a Stored
Session Log if the VIN has been used previously.
3.2. Verify the VIN is correct and click Next Action and continue to the System Navigation menu.

4. Battery Energy Control Module Flash Procedure
WARNING!
DO NOT ALLOW LAPTOP TO GO INTO SLEEP OR SCREENSAVER MODE DURING THIS
PROCESS. TURN OFF SCREEN SAVER IF NECESSARY AND ENSURE PC STAYS AWAKE. THE
LAPTOP MUST BE PLUGGED INTO AC SOURCE DURING THIS PROCESS.
4.1. In the Flash Application Lite screen, select Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) under
the ECU drop-down menu and select the following files to flash the BECM:

4.2. Once the correct files to flash the Battery Energy Control Module have been selected; Press
the Flash button at the bottom right of the screen to begin.
4.3. You will be asked to confirm you have the correct files selected for the ECU you are flashing.
● Click Yes to continue or No to cancel.
● The scan tool will now begin to flash the ECU. In the message box, you will be alerted to the
status of the flash.
Example: “Prepare vehicle for flash…” and “Starting flash.”
WARNING!
DO NOT INTERRUPT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE SCAN TOOL AND THE VEHICLE ONCE
FLASHING HAS STARTED. THE PROGRESS BAR MAY LOOK FROZEN – THIS IS NORMAL. IF
THERE IS A PROBLEM
YOU WILL BE ALERTED THAT THE FLASH HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL.
NOTE: The Battery Energy Control Module takes approximately 10 minutes to flash.
5. Post Flash Procedures
5.1. After the vehicle has finished updating, power it down and allow it to go into sleep mode by
waiting approximately two minutes without disturbing the vehicle. This will perform a soft reset of
the ECUs.
● Once the Drive Select Unit (PRND Switch) backlighting has turned off, the vehicle will be
asleep.
5.2. Power up the vehicle to System Ready and clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) that
may be set. If the DTCs return, diagnose accordingly.
