Subject:

Unable To Communicate With Fuel Pump Control Module With DTC U0109

Models:

2011 - 2012 Chevrolet Volt

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
You may experience a vehicle that has a loss of communication with the Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM). The
concern may be present or the concern may be intermittent. You may also notice that DTC: U0109 may be set as a
current or history code.

Recommendation/Instructions:
After normal diagnosis, if a root cause cannot be determined, inspect circuit 1540 at the left rear fuse box (X53A) for
a loose connection. We have also seen some cases where the F2RA fuse has been loose in the fuse box that
supplies power to the FPCM. You may have to wiggle test the wiring to duplicate the concern.
If you duplicate the concern, replace the fuse box assembly and the terminal on the harness side that feeds circuit
1540 going to the FPCM.
Note: Also inspect the main power feed to the left rear fuse box (X53A) for a loose connection or any signs of
arcing. If the terminal is damaged, please contact the technical assistance center for further instructions.
Note: DO NOT replace the FPCM.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is
resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
