Condition
Certified Clean Idle decals were mistakenly installed on the 43 chassis listed and campaign TIB 43-027 is
initiated to remove those decals.

Chassis Affected
43 T440s and T800s built between 11/10/09 – 09/13/11 and equipped with ISL-G engines. See the attached
chassis list and customer letter.

Action
Service all chassis affected that enter your dealership, even if the customer has no issue with the chassis.
Use the procedure below. Review DWC or SIR online systems to verify that campaign “43-27” is still open or
already completed prior to performing this repair.

There is no time or mileage limit on this campaign. Kenworth will pay for shop supplies and 0.5 hours labor to
perform this repair. File Quick Claim 43-027.

Parts
Shop supplies only (ethanol, rag, wax) are necessary for this repair. A $10 allowance is included in Quick
Claim 43-027.

Background
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has established engine idle emissions reduction requirements for
vehicles with heavy duty diesel engines. Vehicles that meet exhaust requirements are identified with the
Certified Clean Idle decal.
Chassis identified in this campaign are emissions compliant and California Registry applicable, but they have
gas fueled engines and are exempt from CARB clean idle requirements. Chassis listed have not been
subjected to CARB certification requirement testing and should not have a decal to indicate that they have.

Procedure
Customers who request this repair in response to the letter they received will require no discussion. However,
if the repair is being initiated because the chassis was identified by the dealer, explain the reason for repairs
before starting. Review Background and/or give the customer a copy of the attached Customer Letter before
starting.
There are several non-abrasive commercial products that will remove decals and dealerships with a bodyshop
may have established procedures to accomplish this repair. For dealerships that do not have experience with
painted surface repairs, following is an alternative:
1. Apply heat from a hair dryer, set on HIGH. Heat guns are not recommended as they may damage
painted surfaces if the technician is not experienced in decal removal.
2. Start at the edges and as the decal loosens from heat, peel the material away or use a thin and pliable
scraping edge, such as a plastic putty knife. Do not use a tool that could scratch the painted surface.
3. A first layer of the decal may leave behind sticky residue. Use ethanol or other commonly available
product to rub this off (eg: 50/50 water & fabric softener, mineral oil, acetone or commercial product such
as “Goo Gone”).
4. A light wax application may be necessary to blend the newly exposed painted surface with the
surrounding surface.
