2007-2009 CX-7, 2007-2008 Mazdaspeed3, 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 Federal
Emission models

Mazda Motor Corporation is extending the warranty coverage for specific repairs for heavy white
exhaust smoke on the above models equipped with Federal emissions. The warranty for this repair
will be extended to 7 years (84 months) from the original warranty start date or 70,000 miles,
whichever comes first.
Some customers may experience heavy white smoke from the exhaust pipes after long idle
periods or while driving at slow speeds in heavy traffic. This condition may be the result of
insufficient crank case ventilation, resulting in oil leakage past the exhaust turbine shaft seal.
Depending on the model and the damage found during inspection, a crankcase ventilation kit may
be installed, or the turbocharger may be replaced. Please refer to Attachment I for details.
This is a warranty extension for the specified repair only. Inspection and replacement of
non-failed parts will not be eligible for reimbursement to the dealer or customer. This
program extends the warranty period for actual failures due to defects in workmanship or
materials in accordance with Mazda Warranty Policy and Procedures.
Owners of subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail beginning January 13, 2012.

WARRANTY EXTENSION
For certain 2007-2009 CX-7, 2007-2008 Mazdaspeed3, 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 models
equipped with Federal emissions, the warranty coverage for specific repairs to address
heavy white exhaust pipe smoke is extended to 7 years (84 months) from the original
warranty start date or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first.
CONDITION OF CONCERN
It is possible that customers driving the applicable models may experience heavy white smoke
from the exhaust pipes after long idle periods or while driving at slow speeds in heavy traffic. The
smoke may be caused by excessive engine oil lubricating the turbocharger bearing leaking into
the exhaust side of the turbine. The heated accumulated oil inside the exhaust pipe may cause
heavy white smoke. The warranty extension applies only to this condition.
Note: The warranty extension does not apply if the condition is determined to be due to
poor maintenance (insufficient oil changes or using engine oil of viscosity lower than 5W30).
