PURPOSE:
This document outlines the procedures of rebuilding the different exterior side mirror assembly
components. These instructions are to be followed when replacing the entire exterior side mirror assembly
or its individual components, such as the mirrored glass panel, mirror pivot mechanism, or the antenna.
If only replacing mirrored glass panel:
It is possible to perform work without removing mirror assembly from the vehicle. In this case, follow
instructions in Steps #3 and #7.
Instructions include removal photos and procedures of left-hand door interior trim panel and work
associated with left-hand mirror assembly. Instructions are applicable for work on right-hand interior trim
panel and mirror assembly.

Caution!
When working with exterior side-view mirror assembly, follow instructions carefully. Injury may
occur if mirror is broken or if it breaks while work is in progress. Take extra precautions to
protect against personal injury and damage to vehicle.
1. Remove Interior Trim Panel
1a. Open driver’s door to access interior trim panel.
1b. Power down the vehicle. Open the hood and disconnect the 12 Volt battery via connector
C104 located on right-hand strut tower.

1c. Carefully release clips (x2) and remove interior trim panel finisher (see illustration below).

TITLE: Exterior Side Mirror Rebuild and Replacement Procedure
1d. Remove screws (x2) securing interior trim panel to door (see illustration below).
1e. Using a suitable trim removal tool, carefully release clips (x9) securing interior trim panel to
door.
1f. Disconnect door harness connector, illumination connectors (x2), and handle release cable
from interior trim panel and set panel aside.

2a. Remove screw securing interior cheater panel to door.
2b. Using a suitable tool, carefully release interior cheater panel plastic attaching stud.
2c. Disconnect exterior mirror harness and antenna connector.

2d. Maneuver “A” post seal aside to reveal mirror fasteners.
2e. Remove screws (x3) securing mirror assembly to door (torque – 8 Nm).

3. Remove Mirrored Glass Panel
Caution!
When working with the mirrored glass panel, follow instructions carefully. Injury may occur if
mirror is broken or if it breaks while work is in progress. Take extra precautions for protection.
The mirrored glass panel backing has eight clips which latch around the outside perimeter of the
pivot mechanism (as illustrated in images below).
Pivot mechanism will not detach from mirror assembly when removing mirrored glass panel (shown
attached in image above for reference only).

3a. Place mirror upside-down on protective surface.
3b. Tilt mirrored glass panel so you can insert fingers under bottom edge (as shown in image
below).
NOTE: Do not use tools to remove mirrored glass panel. Only insert fingers in location instructed.
Mirror assembly shown upside down in image above.
3c. With even pressure spread across each of your fingertips, pull mirrored glass panel away from
pivot mechanism.
NOTE: Do not to let mirrored glass panel fall or get damaged when pulling it from the pivot mechanism.

3d. To remove mirror heater wires, place thumb over electrical tab and grab wire by its connector
and gently pull wire connector from tab. Repeat for second wire.
NOTE: If only replacing mirrored glass panel, skip to step #7.

4. Replace Mirror Pivot Mechanism
4a. Remove pivot mechanism mounting screws (x3).
4b. Unplug pivot mechanism wiring harness.
Back side of mirror pivot mechanism (for reference only).
4c. Plug wiring harness into pivot mechanism.
4d. Install new mirror pivot mechanism until snug (do not overtighten).

5. Remove Body-Colored Mirror Scalp
With mirrored glass removed from mirror assembly, there will be access to the locking tabs which
hold the body-colored decorative scalp to the mirror assembly.

5a. Gently pry the locking tabs (take extra care as the locking tabs will break) to release scalp.
Start with the two upper tabs (as noted in the image below) and then gently pry the side locking
tabs. The bottom locking tab will release on its own when the other ones have been released.
The locking tabs are fragile. Do not pry them too far.

6. Antenna Replacement
6a. Remove hinge closing panel under mirror to access antenna wire harness.
6b. Remove the attaching screw (see red arrow in image below) and remove antenna unit.
6c. Install antenna and attaching screw (do not overtighten).
NOTE: Overtightening antenna attaching screw will result in a broken mounting ear.

6d. Route antenna wire through hinge tube and out through the bottom of the mirror assembly (as
illustrated in images below). Then route wire through the side mounting flange.
6e. Install hinge closing panel cover on bottom of mirror assembly (not shown).

7. Install Mirrored Glass Panel
7a. Inspect mirrored glass panel for damage prior to assembly.
7b. Connect mirror heater wires to tabs on back of mirrored glass panel.
7c. Confirm orientation of mirrored glass panel on pivot mechanism.
7d. Push mirrored glass panel onto pivot mechanism by evenly applying pressure to the center
area of the glass panel with palm of hand.
NOTE: Do not apply pressure to edges of mirrored glass panel or damage may occur.
7e. Confirm mirrored glass panel is properly attached.
8. Install Mirror Scalp, Mirror Assembly, and Interior Trim Panel
8a. Make sure necessary accessory wires are correctly routed through mirror hinge tube. Carefully
push body-colored scalp onto mirror assembly (clip bottom attaching stud of scalp into mirror
assembly first, then snap the rest of the scalp into place).
8b. Install side mirror – see step #2 and follow steps in reverse.
8c. Install interior trim panel – see step #1 and follow steps in reverse.
8d. Reconnect ground lead C104.
8e. Check all door, window, mirror, and stereo functions to confirm all are operational.
