Convertible Top Does Not Open Properly

SYMPTOM
When opening the top, the second ib may not pivot
property, and may keep the top from opening fully.

PROBABLE CAUSE
* The hinge at the second rb of the convertible top
may need lubricatlon.

* The elastic bands that connect tha top’s second rb
ta the third ab sirstch and loge their olasticity.

GORAECTIVE ACTION

Lubricate the hinges at the second support rb (if
Needed), and replace the elastic bands.

REPAIR FAOCEDURE

NOTE: Protect the Interior of the car with a blanket

during this procedure.

7. Unlateh the convertible top, and open the top
anproximately 12 Inches.

2. Grasp the second nb of the convertble top and
plvot the second rib toward the near of the car, then
forward agaln.

* if the second rb of the top does net pivot sesily,
go to step 3.
« Ifthe second rb of the top pivots easily, go to

the rear of the car, then forward.

3. Ramove the covers from the left and dght pivot
polnt cf the second nb, and iubricate the plyot pomt.

* if the second mb of the top stEl does not plyot
easily, replace the damaged components. Refer
to Bection 20 of the 2000-093 S2000 Sarvice
Maney,

* Ifthe second rib of the top now pivots easily, go
te step 4.

To prevent danlage to ie converte fop, place a
lace of metal or plastic between the db and the
fabric when you cut or drt the vets from the nbs.

4, Using a cutotf wheel or a S0-degree drill with a bit
no larger In diameter than the rivet, cut the haads
Off of the eight pap rivets that secure the two elastic
banda to the second and third ribs of the
convertible top.

5. Remove the four plates thal secure the elasilc

bands, and remove the elastic bands.

8. Continue to dill ov cut off the remaining portions of

the rivets. Be careful not to make the hole in the db
any larger ar the new pop rivet will not hold
securaly.

7. Fomeve the rubber plugs fram the ands of the

second rib, and shake the rip to remove the okd pop
tvet Aelnatall the rubber plugs.

8. Install the new alastic bands with the new band
Plates, and secure iham with new pop rivets.

§. Remove tha Mankst, and vacuum the vehicle.

+0. Qper and close the rol several times fo ensure
that the second rib of the roof Is plvoting rearward

properly.
