Summary of Complaint
2011-2013 Ford F150 models with 6R80 Transmissions have a mechanical defect in the Molded Lead Frame and Output Speed Sensor (OSS). It was recalled under 19N01B and a safety recall 19S07 . I have had several incidents over the past year (2023-2024). When the OSS isn't read the truck will display a orange Wrench symbol and the truck will enter Limp Mode and although it continues to run it has very limited power and the speed and tachometer gauges go to zero. I have had this happen 2x times, both times it is a frightning occurance since it happens suddenly and usually in the flow of traffic. pulling to the side of the road and restarting the truck will clear the problem. I have also had the problem when starting out from a stop light and find the engine revs, but limited forward speed. The transmission will not upshift from 2nd or 3rd gear since the OSS is not reading and the transmission module doesn't know when to shift. Again pulling over and restarting the truck fixes the problem. This has occured 2x time in the past year also. I have taked the truck into a repair facility who has checked it out and could not duplicate the problem. I have had a code scanner connected since the first incident in September 2023, but no codes have thrown. The latest incident August 2024 I did see the Wrench symbol, lost power at appoximently 50mph. The code scanner recorded a P0720 pending code. I took the truck into Les Stumpt Ford for diagnosis. They found no problem and suggested I just keep driving it or replace the Lead Frame. The warranty for Lead Frame replacement ran out in 2019. I did argue that since this is a known mechanical defect Ford should cover it, but without a recall there is no method for a dealer to cover the defect. This is a startling occurance when the problem occurs and since it is well known at Ford i believe it should be a Ford repair. My truck is scheduled for Lead Frame replacement Sept 15th.
