Summary of Complaint
The paint on my hood started peeling last spring for no apparent reason, so I brought my car to a local body shop to have it repainted, and the owner there said that he sees this all the time with Nissans that are that color and that were made around that year, but that there were no recalls for it. I let it be and just paid for the hood to be done, thinking that would be the end of it; but, shortly after that, the trunk started peeling all over, and keeps getting worse and worse; and, more recently, the sides of the car are peeling too and just getting worse and worse. I tried contacting Nissan-s headquarters about this, giving them all of this information, and they told me there-s nothing they can do because the warranty expired in 2016 (I didn-t even purchase the vehicle until 2020), and that it doesn-t matter that the body shop owner said that this is a very common problem, so I-m on my own for the cost of repainting the entire car, even though it-s clearly a manufacturing issue. I even tried contacting my local Nissan, and two workers there even also said that this is a problem they-ve seen several times, so that they also believe it-s a manufacturing issue, but that their hands are tied. At this point, I-m not sure what else to do, but it does seem entirely unfair that consumers - apparently LOTS of consumers - are having to foot the bill for something that is seemingly Nissan-s fault. Since it-s a manufacturing issue, I don-t see why there isn-t, nor why there shouldn-t be, a recall over it.
