Summary of Complaint
BOYFRIEND'S VEHICLE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CODE P0087 WAS NOTED BY THE OBDII (FUEL RAIL PRESSURE LOW) MECHANIC ORIGINALLY STATED THAT THIS WAS AN "INTERMITTENT" PROBLEM AND THE WHOLE SYSTEM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT + $1200. THIS DIDN'T MAKE SENSE TO HIM SO HE ASKED TO BE SHOWN EXACTLY WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS LOCATED, AND WHAT PART WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT GIVE HIM AN ANSWER. "IT'S AROUND THIS AREA" HE REPLIED AS HE WAVED ACROSS THE CENTER OF CAR. HE WENT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND ANOTHER AFTER THAT. ONLY CONSISTENCY HAS BEEN THE LACK OF KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. IN THE MEANTIME, HIS OIL IS THICKENING AND DARKENING, AND HIS FUEL IS NOT GIVING HIM THE MILEAGE IT SHOULD. IT SEEMS THE ONLY ASSISTANCE ANYONE WANTS TO GIVE REVOLVES AROUND REPLACING THE WHOLE SYSTEM, YET THE SERVICEMEN THEMSELVES ADMIT THAT THEY ARE UNCERTAIN THAT THIS AVENUE FOR REPAIR IS NECESSARY. NONE OF THEM CAN OFFER US A REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE SENSOR ITSELF. FINALLY, ONE MECHANIC ADVISED US THAT UNDER THE P0087 ERROR CODE THE FOLLOWING COULD BE CAUSING THE ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON: 1. WEAK FUEL PUMP, CLOGGED FILTER OR SCREEN, RESTRICTED FUEL SUPPLY LINE 2.FAULTY FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE 3.FAULTY FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS MECHANIC IS A STUDENT AND NOT CERTIFIED TO PERFORM REPAIRS. I VERIFIED HIS OPINION THRU OBDCODES.COM BUT WAS QUICKLY DISILLUSIONED BECAUSE AGAIN, NO ONE IS WILLING TO CHECK THESE CAUSES INDIVIDUALLY. FINALLY MY BOYFRIEND WAS TOLD TO JUST BUY A CAN OF AIR SPRAY TO BLOW OUT ANY SURROUNDING DUST AND THEN JUST LET HIM 'RESET' THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SEE HOW LONG IT STAYS OFF. I KNOW THAT THIS IS WRONG AND HAVE FOUND A REPAIR GUIDE FINALLY. BUT,I ALSO NOW FIND SERVICE BULLETIN NO.: TSB-15-01-010 COMPONENT(S): ENGINE NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10058132 THAT SEEMS TO BE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. HOW DO WE RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM ALREADY?
