THE DEALER SIMPLY SNAPPED IT BACK IN PLACE AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE. AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE I SUGGESTED THAT IT WAS MISSING A RETAINING CLIP. THE DEALER ORDERED AND INSTALLED A NEW PANEL. IT CAME OFF WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, ONCE AGAIN INTERFERING WITH MY ABILITY TO LIFT MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I OBSERVED THAT THE NEW PANEL HAS ONLY ONE RETAINING CLIP, JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW POSING A SIGNIFICANT HAZARD, ESPECIALLY TO AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER.

IN 2004 THERE WAS A RECALL, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 04V060000 - NHTSA ACTION # EA02031 COMPONENT: STEERING COLUMN LOCKING:ANTI-THEFT DEVICE (SEE COPY OF CAMPAIGN ATTACHED). I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN DEC. 2015 FROM A MUSEUM SO THIS CAR WAS IDLE ONLY BEING DRIVEN ONCE A MONTH TO KEEP IT IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. I WENT TO START UP THE CAR THE OTHER DAY AND RECEIVED THE ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DIC (SEE PICTURE ATTACHED)MENTION IN THE RECALL MENTIONED ABOVE AND WHEN I WENT TO PUT THE CAR IN GEAR THE CAR STALLED AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE IT. THE FUEL WAS CUT TO THE ENGINE WHICH WAS FAULT THAT GENERATED THE RECALL IN THE FIRST PLACE. I IMMEDIATELY CALL A CERTIFIED CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN STATEN ISLAND NY AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS INVOLVED WITH THE RECALL AND REPAIRED IN 2004. HE CONTINUED TO TELL ME THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR OF WHATEVER THEY WOULD FIND WRONG AS THE RECALL WAS A ONE SHOT NO CHARGE REPAIR. I FEEL THAT THE REPAIRS MADE AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL OBVIOUSLY WAS NOT DONE CORRECTLY AND BEING THAT THE CAR WAS SITTING IDLE FOR SO LONG, THE PROBLEM DID NOT COME OUT UNTIL THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN MORE OFTEN THAN IN THE PAST, THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS ONLY 32,000 MILES VERY LOW FOR A 2000 YEAR VEHICLE. AS THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY GM AGAIN AT NO COST BECAUSE AS I SAID OBVIOUSLY IT WAS NOT DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE RICK CASE HONDA DEALER WHERE MY CAR HAD RECENTLY BEEN SERVICED. AFTER HAVING MY CAR CHECKED FOR A WHOLE DAY I WAS TOLD THAT MY ENGINE HAD BLOWN AND I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. THE HONDA SVC ADVISOR TOLD ME THE CAR HAD OVERHEATED AND THAT'S WHY THE ENGINE BLEW. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THE CAR NEVER OVERHEATED BC THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEVER WENT PAST THE NORMAL TEMPERATURE. WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP MY CAR I SPOKE TO THE SHOP FOREMAN AND HE TOLD ME A METAL PIPE THAT HOLDS THE COOLANT HAD CRACKED AND ALL THE COOLANT LEAKED OUT AND THAT'S WHAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND BLOW. HE COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT CAUSED THE METAL PIPE TO CRACK. AFTER TAKING MY CAR TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED I WAS TOLD THAT THE METAL PIPE THAT CRACKED WAS WORN OUT AT A SPECIFIC SPOT AND THAT'S WHAT CAUSED THE METAL PIPE TO CRACK. I TRIED CALLING THE HONDA DEALER TO EXPLAIN THIS BC NOT TOO LONG BEFORE MY CAR HAD SOME HOSES REPLACED IN THE SAME AREA WHERE THE METAL PIPE WAS LOCATED BUT THE DEALER AND CORPORATE HONDA SAY I HAVE NO PROOF THAT THE WORK THEY DID PRIOR WAS WHAT CAUSED THE FRICTION TO THE METAL PIPE LEADING IT TO CRACK. I EXPLAINED IT WAS ODD THAT THE REST OF THE METAL PIPE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION EXCEPT THAT ONE SPOT WHERE THE CRACK WAS BUT THEY REFUSED TO LISTEN. HAD I NOT PULLED OVER WHEN THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD TURNED ON AND I KEPT DRIVING ON THE HWY WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ME OR OTHERS ON THE HWY. VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE, AND SEEMED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF GLENDORA IN GLENDORA, CA FOR SERVICE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAD LEAKED OUT, AND IT ALONG WITH THE REAR TIRES HAD BEEN REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS WAS A NEW VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 4500 MILES ON IT. IT HAD NOT HAD ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE NOR ANY OTHER SERVICE. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CAUSED BY EXTERNAL DAMAGE, AND IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME BY THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THE PART HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY SEALED. VEHICLE HAS NO WARNING SYSTEM OR DASH LIGHT TO COMMUNICATE A LOSS OF DIFFERENTIAL FLUID AS IT WOULD WITH OIL, TIRE PRESSURE, TEMPERATURE, ETC.
