SITUATION
Malfunction indicator light illuminated.
Fuel-air mixture error codes in the range extender digital motor electronics (RDME).

CAUSE
Possible hardware defect of:
• The oxygen sensor before catalytic converter.
• The fuel injectors.

CORRECTION
Replace oxygen sensor before catalytic converter and injectors.

PROCEDURE
For conditions that are similar to the situation described:
Read out the fault memory (FM) of the vehicle with ISTA.
Are one or more of the following fault codes (FC) entered in the fault memory of the range
extender digital motor electronics (RDME)?
• 124301 - Mixture fine control: Fuel-air mixture too lean
• 124302 - Mixture fine control: Fuel-air mixture too rich
YES - Replace the oxygen sensor before catalytic converter and the fuel injectors according to
repair instructions REP “11 78 510 - Replacing oxygen control sensors (W20)” & “13 64 501 Removing and installing/replacing a fuel injector (I01).”
NO – continue diagnosis with ISTA.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.
Work time labor operation code 00 50 000 is not considered a Main labor operation. Also, since the
“work time” FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required.
Other Repairs
If other or additional work is performed as a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics and related
test plans:
• When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim these repairs using the applicable
defect code and labor operations in KSD2.
